#2. AKA “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” from the Hope Spring Eternal section of Different Seasons.
#4. My first thought is Norris Ridgewick, followed closely by Alan Pangborn, because I love these guys. But Stu’s the money answer. Or maybe Tom Cullen.
#6. Damn - the imponderable returns! Do I put The Mist or The Jaunt? It’s impossible to choose! Going with what seemed to be the most popular in the recent Cafe Society thread.
#8. It’s either Jerusalem’s Lot or Derry. Gonna go with Derry.
Jack Nicholson? How could I forget Jack Nicholson? Dammit!
Oh, and Rebo, you probably know this, but your clown and Pennywise are one and the same. I might even lump “It” answers for #1 in there too, as they’re both manifestations of the same evil.
Fun topic, Candide.

3 - Movie had absolutely nothing to do with the short story of the same name. King sued.
4 - Duma Key - Probably won’t get many matches but I loved that guy
7 - Technically, I’d say “Misery”, which was written and intended to be published as Bachman, but the pseudonym was uncovered, so it ended up being published under King’s own name.

I was going to say “The Lawnmower Man” for #3, but that wasn’t a translation, it was an excuse to pin King’s name to a movie.
I haven’t read any books in a long time, and I can’t be bother to look stuff up, so there are a lot of passes.
I disagree. I remember thinking how cool it would be… but they would never do that… and then they did.
I think I’m easily in the majority with #2 (Shawshank Redemption) and #7 (The Long Walk). I think Stu Redman will be the winner for #4.
Again, I dispute the notion that “Lawnmower Man” is a valid answer for #3. (Not that it looks like “It” would necessarily be the default winner if “Lawnmower Man” were disqualified. Apparently people forget about our heroes pushing a giant spider on its side.)

#2 **I **think it’s The Shining mini-series, but we’re going for popular answers here…
#6 and I mean the novella, not the revised expanded story
#7 I really did his homage to Of Mice and Men, Blaze, though.
I was going to put Johnny Smith, but my competitive nature got in the way. Smith’s character actually felt to me like how I would act after coming out of a coma with a horrid gift—confused, resentful, and wondering if he was going crazy—whereas Stu Redman always felt a bit Marty Sue-ish for me.
Surprised there isn’t more love for Annie Wilkes as a villain; her type of mayhem just felt more real for me than a razory clown who lives in the sewers. Similarly, The Shining is much more terrifying for me than any of his other books that explicitly require a supernatural antagonist. (For me, the nature of the Overlook Hotel is a metaphor for a deeply flawed man’s dreams crumbling around him in near isolation, as he loses his sanity: the hotel doesn’t actually need to be haunted for the book to work perfectly.)
Nature of these types of contests, I guess.
Hmmmmmmmm… so burgers on Easter would be HAMburgers? One brewski for Baker!
