The Feud: The Middle East by Tom Scud [game over]

Object of the game:
Give the most popular answer for each category.

Rules:

  1. No reading the thread before answering. This is on the honor system.
  2. Formatting rules must be followed (see below).
  3. Joke answers will not be considered, as it is not fair to other players.
  4. Google (etc.) is allowed, if you desire.
  5. Maximum 50 entrants, and I’ll score it when I have time.
  6. There is no Rule 6.
  7. Special Rules for this particular Feud: None

Formatting rules:
To make semi-automated scoring possible, and my job easier, make your post look exactly like this:

  1. answer
  2. answer
  3. answer
  4. answer

No double spacing, no smilies, no urls, no periods, no quote marks, and no punctuation if it is not necessary. Put “pass” if you want to leave an answer blank. If you feel you must qualify your answer, do it AFTER THE LIST!
If you don’t format like this, your answers might be DISQUALIFIED.

Scoring:
With 50 entrants, an answer with a match is worth 2x the number of people matching it. If 4 people match, they each get 8 points for that answer. No matches = 0 points.
Formula: Score = 100 / (# of entrants) x (# of matches) Anyone who responds to a question with two answers will only have the first one counted as their answer.

Good luck!

If any of you have ideas for Feuds -and would like me to score them- PM me. If anyone wants to run their own Feud, feel free. I will help any way I can.

Read the rules!

This is obviously Dolores’s call, but I would say that double letters and whether you use “al” or not should count as different spellings for #10, but variations on Al should not - that is, al-Gaddafi should be the same as Al Gaddafi etc. but neither of them should be the same as Gaddafi.

  11. aka Gulf War

  12. I’m probably going to get dinged for this one. I consider a “political leader” to be someone who’s actually the leader of a country. But it looks like everyone else has picked totally non-political types so far. Ah, well.

  1. Saudi Arabia
  2. Israel
  3. Jerusalem
  4. Six Day War
  5. Death on The Nile

Tom Scud, great topic and great questions! I am very interested to see how many different spellings of Libyan ruler will be. I am guessing that there will be more than 15 if we get a full feud.

  1. Saudi Arabia
  2. Israel
  3. Jerusalem

  5. Life of Brian
  6. Persian Empire
  7. Jordan

9 - Being Jewish, I hate saying that, but it’s probably the most popular answer for this question. It’s definitely a major stretch to consider him political.

  4. Gulf War I
  5. The Hurt Locker
  6. Babylon
  7. Tigris
  8. Saddam Hussein

  10. Khadafi
    Notes:
1: Conch, and I’m surprised it wasn’t excluded
4: The one where Iraq invaded Kuwait, and Bush pere got involved. I pity Dolo; there are going to be a lot of ways of saying this one.
10: That seems to be the most common spelling, at least, though it looks like the “official” one starts with G.

I thought about excluding jesus, or having a religious leader subcategory, but it looks like that question will be relatively conch-free.

Surprised by how much of a conch Saudi Arabia is. I (obviously) thought more people would think of Egypt or Iraq.

Also, the KH spellings look like they’ll win the day, but they’re still wrong wrong wrong.

  1. Egypt
  2. Israel
  3. Jerusalem
  4. First Gulf war
  5. Three Kings
  6. Persian
  7. Euphrates
  8. Golda Meir
  9. Salman Rushdie
  10. Qaddafi
  11. Instinct was to say the 6 Days War

A Middle Eastern Feud by someone who’s username is Scud? Coincidence?

ETA: No such thing as a conch when I’m playing! Jesus didn’t even occur to me! And, I’ve been a fan of the Euphrates half of that river pair. Gonna hurt me today!

BTW: The Perfect Master on the spelling question

I’m guessing the answer to 2 will be a conch
