The first RenFest-styled fantasy film franchise will make a BILLION JILLION DOLLARS.

I agree as to the premise, but not as to the example. Vide!

A good work to do as a test piece would be Peter S. Beagle’s *The Folk of the Air *. A Little more SCA than Rennfaire, but a good read by a great writer.

You want a real movie?

Mark your calendars… Jack Black will be filming at our Ren Faire this fall for his upcoming movie called Ye Olde Times.

Okay, that sounded so good that I went out and bought it.

Now you’re hooked. You realize that there will be six books in the cycle, right? And that it links to another trilogy, right?

You say that like it’s a bad thing…

(about 50 pages in…so far so good!)

Brilliant!

And what we like best, since we build the place up from bare ground every August:

Take that, REC!

$5 says that Ye Olde Times will make a bunch of money and

  1. Be roundly enjoyed by people who have never been to a RenFaire.

  2. Be enjoyed by and openly break up people who have been tangentally involved in RenFaires.

  3. Royally piss off and amuse those people who are actively involved in RenFaires. They will be pissed off when he makes fun of what they do, and be amused when he makes fun of what others and the 'danes do. Nobody likes to be made fun of, and face it, FaireFolk are a very large target. No way Black is going to let them off easy here.

Ha, I was trying to think of the name of that stinker. It had RenFest written all over it.

I see someone has already cited “Knightriders” as well. I frankly don’t remember if that one was good, bad, or just bizarre, having seen it on late night cable sometime in the mid to late 80’s.

I dunno…the premise alone makes me about 80% sure that Black himself (or the writer*)* is* a Rennie, and we make fun of ourselves all the time. He might get away with it. He’s got a talent for making fun of people with an “aw, just joshin’, I love ya bunches…or do I?” :dubious:  aura that makes it all okay. I mean, I love the guy, and I hate mean comedy.

*what is it with Black teaming up with guys named White?

snort

I’m not so sure about the premise, but I do rather like Jack Black… and so long as nobody does the Awful Comedy things here, it could be a rousing good time!

Bridget Burke, stop it. You’re going to inspire me! Quit!

Well, he did introduce the White Stripes when they did their Icky Thump showcase last week at the old Tower Records. I was like, “Jack Black… Jack White… hee hee!”

OK, so it wasn’t that funny. :stuck_out_tongue:
