The Fog of War: Discuss.

I thought this Errol Morris documentary was quite well done. McNamara is still pretty sharp for being 85 years old, and it’s too bad that the people in power these days won’t take the time to sit down and absorb his eleven lessons.
The parallels I noticed between the Vietnam War and the Current Iraq Quagmire were disturbing, to say the least.

The hypothetical question he posed which I’m still rolling around in my brain is this one (paraphrased): How much evil do we have to do, in order to do good?
Hmmm…Can good things come from evil acts? Do the ends justify the means?

Comments, anybody?

bump

Another bump.

I think that largely depends on your definition of “evil.” Would you say the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings were evil? If so, than many people would say yes, good can come of evil.

But the bombings were not intentioned as evil - they were meant to save more people than they killed (a preemptive strike, if you will). You might be hard-pressed to think of a truly evil act that brought about good (except unintentionally).
