Cop Rock. That was Steven Bochco’s attempt to make a musical police series. The opening episode featured the LAPD Chief riding a horse in downtown L.A. while dressed like Roy Rogers and singing a cowboy song. The series lasted only ten episodes.
One of the weirdest single scenes was on Quantum Leap. Scott Bakula sang “Great Balls of Fire” while dressed like Carmen Miranda.
hehehe. I loved that one. Scott as a beauty queen.
The weirdest one for me was the one where he was in the body of this realy hot babe who worked for this sexist pig who had nearly made Scott’s roommate kill herself. At the end he came in, as he said, “wearing the slinkiest low cut dress I cut fit my hairy chest into” and started hitting on the boss. When the guy made a move him/her he whispered that he was a man and told him only another man would know what it felt like to get kicked in the balls. The look on the boss’s face was priceless and the whole scene just made me sit there with my jaw open.
I remember the one where Rick(y) hired Menudo to perform for a girl he had a crush on (Lolita or some other stereotypical name) . . . .
hmmm . . little rich white kid “hiring” minority performers and bodyguards?? Always felt something evil and sinister about that show! Damn little nazi . . .
Wicked Blue mentioned it tangentally, but you forgot the best, most important part of the formula, the inevitable build-something-really-really-cool-out-of-random-junk scene. I used to live for this part of the show, especially with the cool background music.
I’d love to see an episode of Junkyard Wars with the A-Team :).
Yeah, I’ve seen it too – bootleg video over the Net; I wasn’t even born when it originally aired – and I’ve never seen an article that does it justice. Every review I’ve ever read gives the impression that it would be campy, MST3K-style fun, and doesn’t convey the mind-numbing badness of the thing. Though tearing it apart afterwards is good therapeutic fun.
BTW, Arden, they just reran that “Quantum Leap” episode on the Sci-Fi Channel.
I thought of something great for this thread, too, but now I’ve forgotten it. Bugger.
That was going to be my answer! I happened upon it at the end, right when they announced that she had won. That guy was creepy, and she didn’t look too happy about kissing him. One of those “what is the world coming to?” moments.
