The Fridge v. Manute Bol

Fox Celebrity Boxing is pitting William “the Refridgerator” Perry (enormous American football player - must go 350 lbs, at a minimum, looks like a sumo wrestler) v. Manute Bol (Dinka tribeman, 7’7" tall, looks like a stick figure come to life – he is as skinny a person can be). [rul=“http://www.fox.com/boxing/”]Link. (click on the “press release”)

I don’t think Manute has a chance in hell, I feel very sad that he’s been reduced to this situation (he evidently has lost everything, and is living off of the goodwill of friends), but feel compelled to watch. I mean, you would be hard pressed to come up with a more bizarre physical match up. (OK, you could do it in a second, but, hey this is pretty good!)

Just had to share.

[sub]By the way, have you noticed that all of Network Television today is from the Robocop movies? I’ll buy that for a dollar![/sub]

God bless the Fox network. (No, I’m not being sarcastic.) Where else could you see Manute Bol boxing? Man, that’s just priceless.

Dude, Minute is just tall … he isn’t any good at basketball! The mere weight of the Fridge will clean his clock!

Anybody wanna make bets???

[sub]Yeah. I thaught so.[/sub]

There’s always the possibility Manute could use his (presumably) superior agility to avoid the Fridge, making him chase him around the ring until he has a heart attack. I think Perry passed 350lbs on the way up a few years back, and also isn’t as young as he used to be.

You’re right Shelbo, it’s a freak show. I feel sorry for both of them if feel they have to do this.

When is this going down? I missed the last one, I gotta see this.

The Fridge. No Contest. It’ll be ugly, but hey, basketball players don’t fight well.

Based on a “Where are they now?” type sports special tied to the Super Bowl several months ago it appears to me (and I’m pretty good with how much large men weigh) Perry is a bricklaying contractor and he has got to be 450 if he is a pound. As others have mentioned the main danger points are Bol getting crippled by Perry’s sheer mass or Perry having a stroke of some kind. This fight is not only stupid, it is seriously hazardous.

Perry by knockout, easily. At least he’s accustomed to taking and dishing out hits. Bol may have more agility, but he can’t just dodge and dance forever. Plus, thin fram = can’t take as much punishment.

And yes, it is sad. I mean, boxing on free TV:smiley:

They should have had Dennis Rodman or John Salley represent basketball. Linemen tend to do well in fighting sports. This will be so unfair.

I doubt Bol has good agility. I watched a really sad ‘true story show’ about him awhile ago. I wish I could remember more facts about his last few years but personally I fear for his safety in this bout. His body is really messed up and he is obviously doing this for the money.

Yes, anyone who’s seen Bol play a game live can tell you that he has no agility. He is the most awkward walking person I’ve ever seen. He kind of lumbers down the court, with no speed, and no quick moving abilities. He seems like a nice guy though.

No opinion on the OP, but had to share one of my fave sports quotes.

I used to be a Bulls fan. A while back they had this tall worthless pine-riding center named Juwann Oldham. He got into a wrestling match with an similarly elongated white third-string center from some other team and as they rolled to the floor Bulls color commentator for the ages Johnny “Red” Kerr succinctly and accurately observed that it “looks like a couple of brooms falling out of the closet!”

I guess you had to be there, but I’m smiling as I type this just remembering it.

Or Charles Barkley.

This is such an obvious mismatch that I fear the bout will destroy all the credibility of Celebrity Boxing that Fox has worked soooo hard to build up.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Falls out of chair and rolls on the ground holding his stomach.
