I’m visiting the kids and just watched my 16 month old granddaughter hand my wife the remote control to skip a commercial in Phineas and Ferb. (It was live TV)
So, at that tender age, she knows what a commercial is and even when designed for kids, does not want to watch it.
You’re underestimating advertisers and overestimating people.
Sure your grandchild skipped a commerical, but she’d probably watch a half hour infomercial. And did she skip ALL the commericals or just the boring ones. If there was a Barbie commerical or Elmo commerical would she skip that?
But your asking a question that advertisers have been working on for ages.
Things like product placement in TV shows are already being discussed. You could go back to the days of radio where commecials were part of the general plot line.
Online you have services like Hulu which don’t let you skip commercials.
Or you could simply make commerical more entertaining. Like that crazy lady that was always looking for the beef.
The shows your 16 month old granddaughter watch make their money from merchandise. It’s what funds Sesame Street and Nick Jr, neither of which show commercials.
Sure, but P&F is on Disney, which has kid-centric ads. I am amazed that she can figure out the difference and even though she can’t yet manage the remote (or even speak her need), knows to bring it to an adult to eliminate the commercial.
