Where do you go for your knitting classes, Shadow? My LYS doesn’t offer many classes, alas; I signed up as interested in a sock class a couple months ago, and there was only one other name on the list.
But then I found the book Getting Started Knitting Socks by Ann Budd, and the book is absolutely brilliant – step-by-step instructions with clear photos, and basic sock directions for 4-8 st per inch in two kids’ and three adult sizes, with directions on how to custom fit them. And then a whole bunch of pattern variations. It’s really calmed all my sock fears.
Anyway, it would be nice to have some classes, but my LYS seems to only offer one-on-one help, and I’m about 20 years too young to sit around the table with the rest of the ladies there.
So I just try stuff myself. I tried a little Fair Isle many years ago and didn’t make a total mess of it, but learning how to do it properly would be nice. But by being self-taught, I know I’m missing out on a LOT of the important little details. You can only get so much from books. Although my Nancie Wisemen Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques is an awesome resource!
Anyway, enough about knitting.
You really should report that car, Taters! That’s called hit-and-run, and it’s totally wrong! But there was a tornado in Vancouver, WA? That’s where my MIL and three of my SILs live! I’m sure they’re all okay or we would have heard, but that’s still scary!
I’m convinced that one reason so many of us were born 10-20 days late was that back in the ooold days, they didn’t calculate date of conception accurately, just went from your last period. Which leaves a three- to four-week window of opportunity. There weren’t ultrasounds and such to measure more accurately, either, and I just don’t remember induction as being an option except in cases of dire necessity. So even though snowbunny was technically 2 weeks late, I’m still convinced she was actually born right on time because I could pinpoint the date of conception, even though my doctor ignored me (which they did a lot in those days – they’d pat your hand condescendingly and do whatever the hell they were planning to do anyway; most aggravating!) and insisted on using his date. With Young Tiger, they were able to get a lot closer; he was actually born only one day after his due date. Marking the only time he’s been even close to on time in his life.
Yay for windows in the new office, Rosie! Is there any chance you’ll be sitting near one, or is that a privilege reserved for Higher Ups?
I hope your employee and her hubby have some good ideas for you, Pie. It sounds like you’re trying your best to get the business in better shape; I hope it works out for you.
Back to work. Envy me my exciting life.
