The Gluttony Thread

One time I ate a whole package of Cadbury Fingers at once. (chocolate finger-shaped cookies.) I was sitting at a computer and absentmindedly eating the fingers, and before I knew it, the whole package was gone and I wasn’t feeling too good. My sister still teases me about it sometimes.

In general, I eat too much chocolate/candy/sugar/fatty foods. I’ve read that depressed people eat more chocolate. Kind of makes sense.

Gah, that’ll happen!

I decided I wanted pizza for breakfast, so I was there at about 11:30am (which is 30 min after they open, so there was plenty of room). A little late for breakfast, but when you’re out late the previous night, early morning is whenever you get up.

I work 12 hour night shifts so the time change night was a 13 hour shift. We decided to eat our way through it. I ate nothing all night except ice cream and hot fudge sauce, lots and lots of it, at least 5 servings.

Peanut butter cookies, 1 pack 2 days. Big homemade apple pie, screw dinner I eat the whole thing.

I have a saying that the good thing about sleeping in late is you can have pizza for breakfast.

Does a Halloween candy sugar fest count? I’m still hung over from yesterday’s sugar binge. (At least I waited until Sunday…I do have some self control. Not a lot, but some.

Last time I was at Publix (supermarket chain here in the south) I picked up, out of curiosity, a jar of “Wicked Garden Mix” pickled stuff.

As seen here

It’s an odd combination of cauliflower, pearl onions, pickles, and a few other things. All pickled with an extra oomph of spice and kick. Not sure what it was going to be like, but I’ve had this same company’s relish before and it was delish!

Tonight I opened it up, planning to just have one or two pieces as dinner finished cooking. Next thing I know I have eaten the entire jar. Just sat there with a fork getting every morsel. My mouth was on fire, but damn that was tasty.

I HATE myself for knowing that Snickers-minis go well with coffee… :frowning:

I did not read that. I did NOT see that and I certainly didn’t try it myself.

You are a genius!

I roasted a chicken for dinner today. I did eat a cup or so of raw carrots while it was cooking. When the chicken was done, I ate ALL the crispy skin, because you know it’s never going to be that good again.

I often have fruit pie and big glass of milk (or coffee if it’s breakfast) for a meal - I LOVE it.
Apple is probably my favorite but cherry is just as good and the only reason I don’t eat more blueberry or strawberry rhubarb is because I don’t know how to bake them.

Although I try to insist on healthy eating for my family, occasionally pie for breakfast is permitted, “because we have Amish heritage.” It’s true - to the best of my knowledge (I’m adopted) I am descended at least partly from lapsed Amish. And I know for a fact that Amish eat pie for breakfast. So there!

As to strawberry rhubarb pie, it’s incredibly easy to make. We have it often because it is my son’s favorite food ever. Here’s my recipe:

**Strawberry rhubarb pie **

Bottom pie crust for a 9-inch pie
2 cups sliced strawberries, fresh or frozen
2 cups sliced rhubarb, fresh or frozen
½ tsp cinnamon
1/8 cup water or fruit juice (or use liquid from frozen fruit as it thaws)
2 tablespoons corn starch
2/3 to 1 cup sugar
Streusel*

Mix fruit in a large bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon. Add the water or fruit juice to the cornstarch and stir until dissolved. Add the sugar to the cornstarch liquid and stir until mixed. Pour sugar-cornstarch mixture over the fruit and stir to combine. Let fruit sit for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 F – about 190 C.
Assemble the pie, putting the fruit into the pie crust and sprinkling evenly with as much or as little streusel as you like. Bake approximately 45 minutes, or until crust is browning and the fruit is viscous and bubbling.

*Streusel - mix together with a pastry cutter:
Flour: ¾ cup
Br. Sugar: 1 c
Cinnamon: ½ tsp
Salt: pinch
Butter: 200gm

Growing up, on thanksgiving my mother would peel the skin off the Turkey before carving and dole it out as rewards for us kids for doing good things that morning. Loved the skin!

I’m on oral steroids again, which gives me the WORST munchies after a few days. Just two hours last night after a big supper of brats cooked with beer-and-onions, boiled taters, and green beans, I made grilled cheese with muenster and cheddar…and dusted the outside with parmesan. Followed by a yogurt. :o

I decided to bake today.

I just polished off a 1 1/2 lb. loaf of bread and a stick and a half of butter watching the Blackhawks.

Need to make plans for snacks to watch the Bears…

Did you lose your appetite or binge eat? Poor Bears!

Halloween candy’s long gone. :frowning:

The only way to not eat candy is to not bring it home!

I made popcorn with bacon grease.
Now I’m making brownies.

eating an artichoke with a mostly butter sauce

Me too. I turn into an eating machine after the second or third day on the steroids.

I ate an entire bag of the P.F. Chang’s Orange Chicken that you buy frozen. No rice. Just the chicken and veg. It’s meant for two.

And then I had frozen yogurt, because calories.

And some gingerbread cookies.

And then some Ativan, so I can hopefully go to sleep tonight! (oral steroids make me hyper).

Yesterday I bought one of those organic, air-chilled whole chickens. I cut it up and then we grilled it over indirect heat, with just salt and pepper.

It was the most perfect chicken grill we ever did. We ate up every bit of the juicy, tender, smoky, crispy-skinned chicken. Usually a whole chicken is enough for a generous dinner plus leftovers, but not this time. I was bloated afterwards. Good thing it was an early dinner so I had time to digest it a bit.
