The God of the Christian Trinity is Gay

Not to mention the virgin birth being confused with Immaculate Conception.

Immaculate Conception only refers to Mary being without the horrible blot of Original Sin on her soul.

God don’t I love a Catholic education…

Well this is interesting, I don’t expect many to play along with me here, but if it is generally assumed that humans are made in the image of God, would that only be heterosexual humans and if so why?

This reminds me of a conversation I had a long time ago, where we were discussing, “Which historical figure would you back in time to have sex with?” My choice was Jesus Christ. Nobody else could top that one.

But, seriously…in the earliest days of the Jewish religion, they DID have two gods – a male one, and a female one. For some reason, they decided that monotheism was the way to go, and the female God was completely written out of the holy texts. We have archaeological evidence of this fact, though.

Cite? Unfortunately, I don’t have one…my source is one of those “Ancient Mysteries” shows on A&E, or something similar. If I had time, I’d try and dig up a link, but I have to get offline right now for a phone call. Hopefully, someone else will be able to produce one.

(bolding mine)

Is that “discrete” as opposed to “continuous” ?
Methinks it should be “discreet”, meaning tactful or prudent.

Q. What’s the difference between the immaculate conception and the virgin birth?

A. Nine months.

(FTR that was a joke :D)

(FTR so was that, and this  :D)

Who cares?

He may have meant “discrete” as spelkled. Being a Person in a Holy Trinity might make you want a girl who’s quite separate from any other entity!

Ok, you straight guys explain this one: Imagine you’re God, and you’re all alone in the universe except for some animals you made yesterday. You can make anything you want. So what do you create? A MAN??? And then you create a woman from spare parts, almost as an afterthought?

And only a gay God would be known as the Grand Designer.

And why do you think we have colors like mauve, taupe and ecru?

And a straight God would have angels playing maybe tenor sax, not harps.

And then there are the wings. Puh-leez!

I knew it. I predicted it. Sooner or later somebody was going to post a “God is a Homo” thread. I just knew it would happen.

Heh! The OP wasn’t such a waste after all.

Still, there seems a very strongly held belief in the Christian God having a male gender. It’s one of the many things which threw the Bible from being the “true word” to a book written by men which reflected their prejudices and prevaling beliefs of the time.

This isn’t in support of the theory of the OP, but… I guess a bit of counterpoint, as I still see the Christian God constantly referred to as Him in our culture.

Well, Jesus hung around with 12 guys, never married, and never said a word against gays…

Not that there’s anything wrong with that (though Old Phred would have a field day with it).

C’mon Annie-Xmas, you know that ole Phred is much more interested in the Bible rather than Jesus!

This strains credulity. A number of the disciples were fishermen. A gay fisherman? Come now.

I heard that women and seamen don’t mix.

SDMB police? I want to swear out a warrant…

Which brings me to something I was hoping to ask, Poly. Ages ago, in another thread, you mentioned a line in the Bible that seemed to imply that Jesus was bisexual, at least in orientation. I was curious about that line, because I’ve mentioned it to other people but didn’t know where to find it.

As regards the OP, what would it mean for the Christian God to be gay? I get the impression Christians usually imagine their God as having no sexual desires and no physical form (which raises the question of what it means for God to be “male”…).

We’re not talking the very carnal dieties of the Greeks, here. The Christian God is usually described as rather abstract, more like one of Plato’s idea-forms than a person.

We all know what you think!

The issue here, AFAIK, wasn’t monotheism; that was already established. The Shekhina can act as a separate entity, but she’s a part of God–specifically, His manifestation in this world.
Cite.

The Sabbath can also be seen as representative of the Shekhina.

There’s distressingly little information on the Shekhina that I can find; if anyone else knows where I can find more, I’d appreciate it.

Of course the Judeo-Christian God is a flaming, prancing, screaming queerboy! You guys just now noticed this? Don’t you know your Old Testament? “The LORD is my shepherd.” And what do shepherds do with their sheep? “Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me . . .” And would a STRAIGHT God make us all so that we have to piss and fuck with the same organ? If He’s not queer, he definitely has a really dirty mind!

As for Jesus, there are several references to “a certain disciple whom Jesus loved.” (No cite, can’t put my hands on a Bible right now.) And this was Jesus, right? Presumably he loved all his disciples, and all his enemies, and everybody else in the world. Why single out one disciple as the one “whom Jesus loved” unless they had a particularly special relationship?
