Official record is 43 years. I know of an unofficial fish that went 44.
Just this past summer, we lost Fezzik the featherfin synodonis catfish. At 12+ years old, he is the longest lived fish I’ve ever owned. In the same tank, I also had a 10yro kuhli loach, an 8yro glass cat, and a 7yro angelfish–all gone now. Something got in my tank over summer and killed all my older fish. BOO.
Fezzik’s replacement Vizzini is now happily keeping our tank properly catfished. He’s only about 3" long, so he’s got a ways to go to reach Fezzik’s 8" adult size.
And yes, there is an Inigo. He’s our cat.
Sadly, Chad the Apparently Immortal Goldfish died today. We buried him in a brief ceremony by the Big Rock in the backyard where all the small-sized pets gp. He was wrapped in an old washcloth, carried in the plastic cup Pepper Mill used in cleaning out his tank. We each placed a flower and said a few words (“Chad was the oldest goldfish I ever had.” “Now I won’t have to clean out the tank again.”). Then we covered him up and hoped that the local wildlife wouldn’t see an opportunistc meal in him.
So, sorry - he won’t be transplanted. And now MilliCal can move that computer in.
RIP, Chad. You had it better than most. Now you’re floating under the Rainbow Bridge.
