The gong sounds for Chuck Barris

I loved the Gong Show, too. Surreal game show and talent show at its most absurd. And Chuck was funny, too.

Too bad Gene-Gene the Dancing Machine has died (and had his legs amputated). But maybe the Unknown Comic can crack some jokes and Jaye P. Morgan can flash her boobs.

With any luck, he’ll one day be reunited with the Lollipop Twins. :o

RIP, Chuck, you ras-cule!

Wow, The Gong Show was a formative experience for me. See ya Chuck II!

Maybe David Liebe Hart can give the benediction.

Popsicle Twins.

Potentially NSFW.

In College, we scheduled our classes around the Gong Show.

Bye, Chuck! Thanks for the [del]mammaries[/del] memories.

So, I never was very clear. Was Chuck a spy? Did he think he was a spy and was just crazy? Was all that a big joke?

Here it is.

Hardly worth waking up anymore…

Ask not for whom the gong rings, it rings for thee.

The CIA has maintained that Barris never worked for them*. As noted in a Time Magazine article from 2003, when the movie adaptation came out, Barris had a history of fabrication. Although Barris apparently never acknowledged the CIA story as false, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything (other than Barris’ word) to suggest that any of it was true. So, probably somewhere between “he was just crazy” and “he made it all up as a joke.”

    • Then again, if he was an assassin for the CIA, wouldn’t that be exactly what you’d expect them to say?

You know spies. A bunch of bitchy little girls.

Merged threads.

And they actually got away with that on TV.

Lord, I love the '70s.

Maybe Murray Langston can deliver the eulogy?

ive always wondered why they never brought back the gong show … .

It’s being revived.

I don’t know who that is.

Neither does anybody else.

People, people, we all know Chuck Norris can not and will not be killed by conventional means.

Personally, my money’s on the band Buckcherry.
