That’s right, Bryan. Bodoni closing the thread in such a peremptory, high-handed and unjustifiable fashion stopped a discussion that the good doctor wasn’t dominating dead in its tracks. It was quite unnecessary and if she, or her fellow powers-that-be, have any balls (cue hilarious nanoswarm Simpsonesque jokes), they would reopen it immediately. Period.

You really might want to read some of his threads. This one should belong in any proper SDMB hall of shame. He has a pattern that is, by this point, well established.
It would be fine to have anybody else start a marriage thread because virtually any other Doper wouldn’t be starting such a thread with the deliberate purpose of being inflammatory, baiting people, making snide spurious “professional opinions” of the mental health of other Dopers, and other jerkish behavior. The bad doctor has made a habit of coming as close to the line as possible, and that thread should have been closed if only to stop him from, yet again, engaging in his song and dance. The best way, of course, to stop him is, and will be, his upcomming banning.
Oh and, just for the peanut gallery, as sure as I am Spartacus, it occurs to me that anybody who had actual training and had done thousands of hours of research into human sexuality might get their information from said research, and not commedy routines.

As one with a PhD in clinical psychology, I can say that I have met several people over the years who should not have doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, yet do. Fortunately, they are among the minority, but they do exist.
The degree is not a guarantee that any sort of criterion level of intelligence or maturity has been met, although the process makes it more difficult for the stupid or childish to progress too far. Still, exceptions do occur.

I wouldn’t link back to drmark’s thread, though, since he’d started it in the Pit with the obvious intent to express anger/dismay/disgust at Dopers who are married. Start the subject fresh, with no mention of him. I think it could be a very interesting thread (example title: “Is marriage still necessary?”), though I myself (having never been married) probably couldn’t contribute anything particularly insightful to it.

So I’m in the group he’s pitting. He’s got a fair point, whether or not I’m offended. 50% of marriages do end in divorce, and forcing a child’s existence (whether in or out of marriage) is one of the most presumptious things one can do (although I’ve done it).

Yes, it is unquestionably a persona; a comic-opera one at that. Just as Larry the Cable Guy is a caricature of a redneck, drmark2000 is a caricature of an egomaniacal attention whore. Also just as with Larry, the schtick was funny for a little while, but it is now tiresome. The actual opinions you express are rather simpleminded and, if not delivered in **drmark2000 ** character, wouldn’t excite any notable degree of animosity.
This bit, above, is a perfect example of you acting as drmark2000. I do simply skip your posts, I don’t need or use an ignore feature to screen out chaff. Anyway, I expect that the fellow under the drmark2000 costume is probably reasonably intelligent and gifted with a modicum of creativity. If that man should ever put in an appearance here, it might spark my interest to read some of what he has to say. In the meantime, drmark2000 is handled the same way I handle Larry the Cable Guy, Raymond J Johnson Jr, Urkel, and other characters I find tedious: I move on to something that is interesting and funny.

Again for the terminally stupid: it was NOT closed because he Pitted marriage. It was closed because of his BEHAVIOR in said thread.
I have no objection to such a thread in GD, as long as it’s not trolling. I considered drmark’s OP to be trolling, which is why I closed the thread, and why I have asked the other mods about his posting privileges (and we are still talking, BTW, most of us have lives outside the SDMB).
And yeah, I can say that I think someone’s trolling, because I’m on the moderating staff.
