Though I have no idea why he didn’t refute the accusation he was misinterpreting the ‘general 50% coin-flip stat’ by pointing out he was pitting all people who get married - not just those who make the decision to wed for the first time. The hint tomndebb gave him saying
in no way reinforces the accusation drmark2k can’t grasp statistics and hence, can’t be a psychologist. There have been plenty more wackier and controversial premises posted both here on the SDMB - and in his professed field. If we’re going to start openly accusing people of lying, I think we’re going too see a lot more evidence than the he’s ‘unable to grasp statistics’ assertion.
His OP was general, broad and made some assertions that might be incorrect - But making the giant leap & stating you can read a person’s mind and determine they’re sole intent is to cause a dust-up is pretty powerful stuff. Drmark may have violated the ‘jerk’ clause of the rules - but unless flipping a coin is the conclusive process for determing the accuracy of the trolling accusation, I can’t imagine it being any more accurate than the hunch that it is.
That’s my whole point, he is consistent in his area’s of dislike. Trolling IMO is stating things he doesn’t believe in, just to raise heckles. He is consistantly on the other side of the fence than the majority of the posters here. But so am I. So should I watch what I say out of fear of becoming the next “jerk” that needs banned?
The majority, yes–the majority of the Mods & Admins. The rest of us have no real say in the matter.
Yeah, that’s why I have seen so many posters banned/suspended that didn’t first have the complimentary pile on for saying something the rest disagreed with. If those very people who hope to see drmark banned would ignore his posts and anything to do with him, the MODS, ADMINS would not even know he exists.

Abbie, when I first got here I was involved in several threads where I border lined on Jerkish. I got I think one warning and some good advise. Unless you get a warning, what are you worried about. We’ve been here about the same time, do you really see many people being driven out. Most have committed board suicide by Moderator.

Many of us learn what the unwritten rules of the board are. Some don’t. Andrewt85 comes to mind. Haven’t you had loud disagreements with posters in one thread and then later posted on the same side of an argument in another thread?

Nope, that’s part of the problem. A majority dislikes someone’s view, and there method of saying the view. That leads to a charge of being a jerk in the text box after clicking the !. And that leads the Mods, Admins to review the poster. So now we are seeing eye to eye. The majority disliking someone can and does lead to them being a banned “jerk”

Not at all. Clicking the ! just gets the attention of TPTB, who then decide to act on the report or not. It’s not a popularity (or unpopularity) contest.
TPTB also read the boards and can find questionable behavior on their own. I submit that drmark is already under close scruitny due to being suspended twice and the current standing warning to not start that are, nor allow threads to become, self-aggrandizing. All he has to do is keep behaving more like he does in the pinball thread that I linked earlier; pitting him or reporting his posts won’t really make any difference.

You know, another good way to get the attention of TPTB is to equat the banning process with an (un-)popularity contest. The last one to do so turned out to be a sock.

Very interesting view, so if someone has views that piss many off, they are banned. And if they express dismay about bannings they turn out to be a sock. Or was that a subtle hint? If it was I can assure you I am not footwear of any kind, but your viewpoint brings up a decent conspiracy theory.
I doubt that. I suspect that most people who doubt that drmark2000 is a psychologist are basing their assumptions on the fact that he is a jerk who does not seem to actually have a grasp of psychology (aside from the inherent grasp of how to pull peoples’ chains).
Certainly I have made no assumption that he is not a psychologist. I simply found him posting wild nonsense in a Pit thread* and linked his bumbling of numbers and his claims to competence as a way to yank his chain as he enjoys yanking others’.
*(Opposing marriage is not inherently nonsense. His arguments and his expression of them were.)

There are people here with opinions similiar to mine-that I simply cannot stand. And likewise, there are people I totally disagree with that I am friendly with.

Oh yes I see him acting like a total dickhead, er shithead. But I see MANY others act (IMHO) as total shitheads as well. It should not be a bannable offense. Ignore the shitheads, enlighten the shitheads, but do not ban the shitheads. More than one poster here pisses me off with almost every post, they act arrogant, and post contrary viewpoints into almost everything they post in. Yet they are long standing members whose posts do not garner “extra eyes”.
In point of fact, there are any number of posters who are generally disliked on the SDMB and rather few of them have been banned. Of those who have been banned, many posted for several years without incurring banishment, simply by not breaking rules or flagrantly behaving like jerks.
(Yeah, the “jerk” rule is vague. The alternative is to have a Talmud- or Blackstone-sized forum in which every adjudicated reported post is laid out with every opinion regarding it spelled out in exhaustive detail–following which some human still needs to make a decision.)
It is actually not that easy to get banned (barring a couple of capital crimes such as spamming the board or maintaining a sockpuppet). For as hostile as you seem to be, I do not recall ever seeing you pick up a warning.
However, if you feel better voicing outrage and horror because someone has been threatened with banishment for behaving in an uncivil manner, by all means indulge yourself.
