The tape moves no matter what you do or don’t do. And I’m not sure what buttons you’re referring to; I haven’t found any buttons per se that do anything (even though the one on the joystick-thing really looks like it ought to do something).

Oh, and the cup of something almost but not entirely unlike tea ripples if you click it.

The doodle makes me a little sad. Partly because Adams is no longer with us, but partly because I took so long to come to terms with being a geek.

The fact that this was only his 61st birthday made me sad. So much more he could have written.

Definitely. I still have a soft spot for his book Last Chance to See, a book about really really endangered animals that would, because of his deadpan wit, be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.

I’ve got a copy of that (I lost my first one and bought a second “for my daughter, but I’ll keep it on my bookcase, ok?”) and the sequel by Mark Cawardine (and Stephen Fry). Both are worth having. In the later book, Mark and Stephen talk about Douglas and the impact he had on both of them.
