Thanks for running this, ianzin. It kept me occupied for a while. So we just missed out on the national anthem aspect. Looking at that Wiki page, I’m surprised Googling all those names plus “writer” doesn’t find it. I suppose it’s because you deviously chose names that are also common English words.

(That aspect of it threw me down a dead end of wondering whether the names were actually foreign ones that translated to those words in English, e.g. Zinn, Lejeune, Pfeffer…)

Well, now that you have revealed them, the answers are so obvious.

I am bad at anagrams, but I still got number 3. Number 7 was more difficult and I didn’t come up with an answer. I can’t imagine me solving any of the others (except 6 which was the easiest for me) without help.

5. Which well-known movie (in the IMDB Top 150) features a listed character whose name is also the title of another movie made seven years later?

A. This was interesting because one or two people came up with answers different to mine, but that still work. My answer was that ‘Metropolis’ made in 1927 features a character listed as ‘The Thin Man’, which was also the title of a movie made in 1934. However, Antechinus offered ‘The Sixth Sense’ (1999) and ‘Bobby’ (2006). His answer is better, in my opinion, because ‘Bobby’ was a well-known movie in its own right, whereas the later film in my solution, ‘The Thin Man’, was much more obscure.

I wanted to include a question based on movies because movies are a popular subject here on the Dope. However, it is VERY hard to devise movie questions that Google can’t crack fairly easily. It took me a long while to think of an angle that Google can’t help with, and I eventually settled on this ‘character/later movie’ link.

The movie pair of Se7en (1995, IMDB rank #26) and John Doe (2002) also works.

Found by googling “John Doe”, strangely enough.

Yeah! I loved it! I was just REALLY bad at it and became ridiculously obsessed. Despite that, I only managed two questions by myself, another 5 by trading and 3 were beyond me.
