I’ve just watched The Graduate on the big screen, part of the 50th anniversary celebration, and noticed something I thought might be worth mentioning…
At the start of the party, Benjamin is hiding in his room sitting with a fish tank behind him. The air supply to the fish tank is through a plastic diver which is clearly standing up.
Later on, when he is asked by Mrs Robinson to take her home, she tosses the car keys to him which land in the fish tank. He puts his hand in to remove them and the little diver is lying over on its side. I guess the idea was that the keys knocked it over indicating the “out of his depth” aspect of the plot he is about to enter.
The thing is, while they are talking and before the keys are thrown the diver is lying down. So either it’s a goof or there’s something else I’m missing?
