The Grateful Thread

I’ve been having a bit of a pity party the last couple of weeks and decided it’s time to “suck it up, buttercup” so I thought I’d start a thread where people (if they feel like it) can post something they’re grateful for. I’ll go first:

  1. A coworker brought me some of her garden tomatoes.
  2. My new frog tank.
  3. Going for a girls’ night out on Friday.
  4. I love my apartment and having it all set up exactly the way I want.
  5. My hilarious budgies who always make me laugh.

I never know if I should count my lucky stars or never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Scarlet begonias.

That the warm weather has been holding up here in the mountains for longer than it usually does, enabling me to extend my canyon hiking season by several weeks.

The Nespresso Inissia my brother and sister bought me for my birthday. Thing makes a damn fine cup of coffee.

Readers with a low “cornball” threshold should move on

I’m grateful for people like FloatyGimpy, who give me a mental “slap in the face” when I need it most (like today). Thanks, FG.

My bedtime sound is a playlist of 69 versions of Dark Star that I shuffle each night before I nod off.

Excellent results from yearly physical two weeks ago!
Finally got the cars oil changed after 14 months and it passed emissions!
My dog makes the cutest crunching sounds when he eats lettuce; his new favorite treat.

I’m not there yet but have made huge strides of progress in the right direction. The first piece of brand new furniture I’ve ever bought in my whole entire life (I’m 46) that I won’t have to assemble myself is due to arrive in about 2 more weeks.

It’s not a big group, but my family is pretty cool. I also have two marriages worth of in-laws that I truly like and enjoy spending time with.

This might be kinda cornball, but I’m grateful for these boards. My job is fairly solitary, and I live with my teenaged son which in terms of human interaction is essentially living alone. People here talk about things I’m interested in, make me laugh, and support each other. So what if I’ve only ever met 10 or 12 of you face to face? Within this category I’m particularly grateful for Silenus’ Ginger Snap recipe - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked to bring some more of those.

I’m abundantly grateful that I am not currently a teenager, or about to be one.

I may have worded this poorly and, if so, I apologize. I meant skip that particular post, not skip the entire thread.

And a touch of the blues.

Cripes, that’s a good one.
I’m grateful I didn’t quit my job and storm out in a cloud of righteous indignation when I wanted to. (Ah, paycheck, how I wuvzes you. And need you.)

I’m grateful I was walking down that particular sidewalk that particular day at that particular minute, and thus met New Guy, who puts up with my shit and takes care of me when I don’t, and generally keeps me sane.

I’m grateful for warm heavy blankets on cool nights when I can keep the windows open all night, with SmallDumbCat curled by my feet where she has determined Cats Ought To Be.

I’m grateful for threads like this, that make me remember to count my blessings.

I changed the stator in my vfr800 all by myself and it’s putting out a steady 13.8 volts. Woo, and also, hoo!!

IOW, I replaced the bad part of the charging system on my motorcycle and now the battery stays charged.

^ Son of a Rich, good for you, man! It’s a great feeling, huh? Especially if you keep ALL your fingers.

My dog came into my bedroom and nudged my hand, which was hanging off the side of the mattress. He then stood there for a couple of minutes wagging his tail while I patted his head and stroked him under the chin. He really wanted me to wake up and let him outside, though, so I’m glad he didn’t wake me up by letting out a loud “WOOF!” six inches from my ear. All in all, I’m glad he’s nearly the perfect dog. Quiet, affectionate, obedient, and totally, totally housebroken. He’s like a roommate that has manners and doesn’t order movies on cable.

I, too, am grateful for this thread because I needed reminding today.

I am grateful for lovely kitties that are also great mousers.
I am grateful for the streak of warm weather that is allowing some new plants to take root.
I am grateful for my frustrating work project, because it is giving me a paycheck and because it helped me reconnect with someone I always wanted to know better.

Thanks for all the replies. Sometimes I just have to remind myself how extremely lucky I am. I have a fully functional body, my own apartment full of food and all my things, a job I love with people I really like. I have healthy, happy pets, a new aquarium and my Sea Monkeys hatched today at work. Watching all the business people coming by my desk all day long, checking on them, was so entertaining.

My simple life would be the envy of most people in the world.

It doesn’t mean I don’t have challenges and problems but I need to keep things in perspective.

I’ll see your scarlet begonias and raise you my pink geraniums!
(My first year as a geranium grower.)

Also, love to go out to my little shop and admire my great collection of new tools.

I’m relatively healthy at 60, so yay!
We’ve done some serious reordering in our retired life, eliminating some expenses, so I don’t panic as much when I look at our bank balance.
Fall weather means no a/c but no heating yet - huzzah for open windows!
My husband is da bestest! We’re creeping up on 31 years together - not bad for eloping after just 4 weeks of dating. Go us!

Free firewood

My hobbies are paid for
The economy is looking up
Hugs are still free
My cat still purrs around me. (OK, sometimes she bites me too, but I think thats just because she has good taste in men.)
