The great eclipse conspiracy

This is priceless: The Eclipse Conspiracy - The Atlantic

The man’s got a point.

It’s a whoosh right? I thought the article was hilarious – it had a "I’m just sayin’ " vibe to it.

Don’t mean this to be a hijack, but I thought I’d share…

My wife and I live in an area that will have only 93% totality, but we plan to photograph and observe the eclipse anyway. To test out my camera (with solar filters), eclipse glasses, and the field of view we have in our front yard, we went out yesterday about the same time as the eclipse will occur on Monday. We were standing there, looking at our watches and the sky, while my tripod-mounted camera clicked away.

Two different neighbors came up and (gently and hesitantly) broke the news to us that the eclipse wouldn’t occur until Monday. It was so funny that we both burst out laughing.

I especially liked the part about the “Obama-era NASA scientists”, as well as his desire to see and check the math.

At a friend’s party last night I mentioned how hilarious it would be if the eclipse happened 24 hours early. Travelers would be pissed of; meanwhile scientists would be blaming Ed, a grad student, who fucked up and didn’t carry the one.

That’s not funny. Why would they know what you were doing? In fact even after explaining I’m not sure I even know what you were doing.

I thought the story was clear- they were photographing the sun at the exact time the eclipse was to take place, but a day early. Their neighbors thought they had the day wrong and were gently correcting them, not realizing they were doing a test run of the equipment.

Nice neighbors- cute story.

Beautiful! Ten out of ten for “Right On!”

I will now have to link that to everybody I even heard of!

Thanks, Hari!

I too went out yesterday (morning) to play a bit; however, unlike you, I did see a partial eclipse!
(It was caused by a tree.)

That’s nothing. I went out late yesterday and saw a total eclipse of the sun by the earth.

I think I saw an eclipse an hour ago. Science got it right. For once.

Okay, that was pretty cool. We had some big clouds that intermittently obscured our vision… but still, that was pretty cool.

I’ve been showing the eclipse to folks here at work using heavy light filters and also by projecting it onto a sheet of paper using my binoculars.

I built a shoebox pinhole camera for my wife Pepper Mill to use, although she says she’s planning on using her phone.
Her phone!
Damned cellphones are taking over traditional crafts. As I complained yesterday, in the future, kids are going to have to make their papier mache using crushed cellphones, because they won’t have newspapers.

Where I am in western PA we had clear skies until eclipse time, then a huge thunderstorm moved in. We heard crickets, which was cool.

I give the eclipse 1/10.

Very cool. We had 70% which was enough to get dim and cooler, but still bright. Drive home how much light the sun gives, when it was still bright at only 30% sun!

Some cool pics of leaves acting as pinhole cameras.

Those who don’t trust the liberal scientists about climate change should feel free to ignore the liberal scientist’s cautions about staring at the eclipse.

You’d best not be shopping for life insurance: the deck is stacked against you! :frowning:
