The R1250RT is what I will probably get when I replace my Buell Uly. I think I have another two years on my Buell before I’m ready to replace. The Buell (and eventual BMW) is what we use for moto touring 2-up. Think 2-3 week trips as well as long weekends. I’ll need to test ride one since, while it is “light” for a 2-up touring moto, it is still quite a bit heavier than my Uly. It appears it is a bit taller than my already tall Uly. I have 36" inseams and can flatfoot my Uly. I expect I’ll be to with the R1250RT as well.
Adaptive cruise! Very cool! On my older R12RT the cruise control would not set over 100mph. I hope the newer ones do.
Before anyone jumps on me (100! You must be nucking futs!!), some may not realize that out here in western states, 100mph is nothing. Example, US-50 across Nevada has lots of wide open spaces. Its road surface is excellent, and you can see for many yards to the sides of the road (for critters, etc). There are other such highways too, like I-10, I-40, I-80, I-5, and others.
Yes, 100mph risks a ticket…
Okay, yeah I may want to check out BMW. Thanks!
It’s sunny, it’s 50º, and the roads are dry. I thought I’d take the R1 out for the ride of the year. Turn the key, and I hear the whirring and chugging of the fuel pump and the lights come on. Push the starter and it cranks… but not enough to start. Charging it entails removing the seat, which is bolted down. Had to get the hex keys. I really should see about putting a couple of bolts in the compartment under the rear pillion, which is opened with the key, and wiring them to the battery. Then it would be a lot easier to charge.
Pretty much every bike I’ve owned I’ve installed an SAE battery tender pigtail that comes out of some accessible area under the tail. If you’re clever enough with the mounting, you won’t even need to pop the seat. Plus you can run heated gear off of it.
I’d have to get an adapter for the adapter. Or else buy a new charger.
I wouldn’t buy a new charger, I’d just put an SAE connector on it. The battery tenders,I’ve had, as far as I remember them, the option to switch from clips to the plus. I always threw away (or lost) the clips.
I’ve had this charger for at least 20 years. I don’t recall it ever having a connector; just the clips.
Anybody wanna buy a real nice Kawasaki W650?
I used to own a Vespa. Lane splitting is legal where I live.
I stopped lane-splitting after getting between two full size buses, neither of which were using rear view mirrors, and getting closer and closer together, presumably to stop at a single bus stop.
I still ride bikes, but no way am I taking on my city public transport in a battle of size.
What year? How many miles? Can you post pictures?
2 to pick from. A 99, and an 00. One has low miles, the other has almost none! Both blue/silver. The 00 is near mint, almost never ridden. Has a spot of Showroom damage on the tank, but otherwise looks like this (has a luggage rack, not shown):

I’ve watched several videos on the R1250RT and I am very impressed! I definitely have to check it out.
I like it in white!

Same

You can convert your existing trickle charger to have a SAE connector (heck, you could even buy another SAE pigtail and clamp to the battery mount side). Or, buy a new tender. They aren’t that expensive.

I have to stop looking at info on these bikes. I’m not ready to buy a new bike. Right?

That’s what I said.
I need coffee - my reading comprehension is crap. It is a Monday morning.
Both my Buell and DR650 have these and I just move the trickle charger back and forth every week or so during the off months.
Are motorcycles hard on alternators?
No–they just have small batteries and sit around in the winter months (if you’re not in So Cal). My tractor is the same way. Not enough use.
That’s true for cars as well. If you aren’t using one regularly, the battery drains.
The battery is fine but the alternator isn’t keep up at low RPM. The lights are now dimming.
What kind of MC? A lot of MCs don’t have an alternator–they have a stator driven off the flywheel. Bad stator or bad voltage regulator?
