Now’s the time for Jeffries to pull Emmer aside, clear his throat, and start getting some concessions.
“So, you got a little problem there, Mr Emmer. Ya know, we can help with that…”

I’ll agree to that if Emmer agrees to shut down and publicly discredit the investigations into the Biden family, support legislation to protect abortion rights, fund Ukraine, and to support further legislation to strengthen the ACA and worker protections.
The problem with this analogy is, in an abusive relationship, the victim usually has the power to walk away, they just need to exercise that power.
But in Congress? You’re stuck with these fuckers. The Democrats have no power, legal or otherwise, that will remove the recalcitrant radical Republicans from office, and so long as they’re holding those offices, they have real, legal power to pull their shit.
Until the Democrats can convince voters to stop putting these people in power, Democrats in office need to have plans to minimize the bullshit and maximize the useful work being done, and that will require working with at least some Republicans, even if those options have low odds for success.
Would you like a pony as well? A pony with a purple tail that flys?
How do you trust Emmer to keep the promises? How do you even be able to guarantee that any of them happen?
Democrats have been acting like abused spouses appeasing their abusers for years now. I spent some time a few years ago pointing this out, until I got disgusted with all the “Yeah, the Republicans are horrid but if I fold the towels just right every time maybe they’ll stop hitting me” toned responses.
Yeah, “it’s your own fault I’m having to make you suffer” has been GOP political philosophy for going on decades now. No news there.

Pardon me for asking what is probably a very crazy question, but just what would a Speaker Emmer do that a Speaker Jordan would never consider - or vice versa?
They’ve gone fully, completely insane:
Troy Nehls said if he goes to the floor, he will nominate the former president.
“I think Donald Trump is our answer,” he said. “Maybe for the first time in the history of our democracy, we should consider somebody from the outside. I suggested, if we go to the House floor for a vote, it is our leader Donald J. Trump for 100 days.”

From the Washington Post
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said on Tuesday that he plans to encourage Republicans who voted for him in the House conference’s latest vote for speaker to stand down.
“I’m going to encourage it. Yeah, I’m going to encourage our team to come together,” Jordan — who was dropped as the GOP’s nominee to be House speaker last week — told reporters.
Pardon me for asking what is probably a very crazy question, but just what would a Speaker Emmer do that a Speaker Jordan would never consider - or vice versa?
Well, he voted to protect same sex marriage, he voted to certify the election, he voted to fund the government to name a few…

Yeah, Donald’s schedule seems pretty open right now. Can’t imagine why he wouldn’t be able to run the House of Representatives.
They’ve gone fully, completely insane:
They are just deeply unserious. It’s as if a hospital full of doctors, knowing that they’re hired on a two-year contract, decided to spend those two years playing basketball and posting memes instead of doing their goddamned jobs.
They don’t care about what they were hired to do. They’ll fuck around and have fun instead.
Jeepers. The Democrats must be running out of popcorn by now.
They’ve gone fully, completely insane:
Strong smell of desperation there.

Even if they all fall in line, there are still five that voted for either Jordan or Present.
They are now on a two hour break to figure whatever tf to do next
Dysfuntion Junction, what’s your function?
Hookin’ up turds and lazies and frauds-es
Dysfuntion Junction, what’s your function?
I’ve got three favored Speaker candidates that can’t get the job done
Dysfuntion Junction, what’s your function?
I’ve got Scalise, Jordan, and Emmer - they won’t go very far
Scalise! Gave-up and sent it back to the clerk
Jordan! Withdrew after strong-arming didn’t work
Emmer! Scuttled by the Insane GOP Posse jerks
When you have a choice like this or that,
None of them will get you very far!

Bring legislation to the floor to prevent a government shutdown even if it would require Democratic votes to pass.
Bring Biden’s legislation for Ukraine & Israel to the floor even if a majority of his caucus opposed it.
Govern, basically.
They are just deeply unserious.
This is exactly right. They haven’t realized (or, more likely, just don’t care) that when you are elected as a member of a party, and chose to caucus with that party, the bare minimum you are expected to do is support that caucus’s selection as the leader of the party.
Sure, you can vote the way you want during the caucus votes, but when the time comes to vote for Speaker, you vote your party’s candidate. Period. You don’t get to hold your party hostage until you get your way.
They think that their moderates will blink. That when the choice is either Jordan (or someone like him) or a shutdown (or Jeffries) that the “moderates” will cave. But I’m not sure they are right about that…
But I’m not sure they are right about that…
One thing politicians are good at, is seeing anything that weakens their political influence. The moderates can see that it they cave to Gaetz & Co, then they’ve weakened their own political power. I think that, more than anything else, will drive the stalemate to continue.
