The Great SD SMOKE-OUT Topic - Part 2

As I was starting a new thread, I realized THIS may be the reason I feel like having a smoke so badly.

I haven’t done it yet though!!! Still fighting through it. Hey Shayna, I found instead of drinking the water in the water bottle, you put vodka in it instead. It doesn’t get rid of the cravings, but trying to act sober at work is really keeping my mind off it!

SMOBER for:**
One day, 21 hours, 4 minutes and 54 seconds. 28 cigarettes not smoked, saving $4.37. Life saved: 2 hours, 20 minutes.**

Alright, I MUST quit smoking. NOW. After reading through this thread (several times) and vassilating about what to do, my body seems to be making the decision for me. I know I’m just a newbie (I prefer FNG, actually) but I would like to ask for a little help. I’m tired of not being able to breathe (it’s gotten MUCH worse over the past two weeks), not being able to speak for more than a few sentences at a time, not being able to run and all that stuff. I’m afraid to let my vanity get the best of me. I’ve lost 40 lbs over the past 6 months or so and I do not want to get fat again.
I’ve tried to do this before using drugs, patches etc. and I"ve never succeeded like that. I quit once before for about 2 years and I did that cold turkey. It’s Friday, about 2 in the afternoon, I have 8 cigarettes left in my pack and then I’m done. Wish me luck.

Congratulations Spolvy! You’re in good company here.

BratMan007, I’ll be your sponsor for Tuesday 6 June 2000. See you in this post!

weirddave, I’ll sponsor you for one day next week, pick a day. If you don’t stick to it, I’ll have to go deface that picture of you that techchick put up on the “Men of The SDMB” page.

As part of my sponsorship, I’ll send some swiss chocolate in the mail, if you stay smoke-free on my day.

Delta-9, ultress, seems to me like you’re doing pretty well, but if you need a sponsor, let me know.

Hi! Just stopped by to check in on everyone. Shayna, thanks for all of your good wishes. They have helped me. Now, when are you going to come back to the well-endowed thread?

Jeannie, jazzmine, good work! Keep it up! Need a sponsor? Let me know.

Spolvy, Yeay!!! I’m so glad to have you join the other non-smokers!! Great news!! Do you need a sponsor? Let me know what day you want to to bug you! Or hug you, or whatever you need me to do to help you thru this.
{{{{{{{Spolvy}}}}}}}

Where’s everyone else? Check in, please!!

{{{{{{{{GroupHugs}}}}}}}}

Woo Hoo!! We’re bringing another one over from the dark side. Spolvy if there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know. If you need a sponsor or just need to rant we’re all here to help you get past the worst part.

{{{Bratman007}}} I wish I had a magic wand that I could wave and make the cravings go away. Just it ride it out the best you can. Shayna and the rest of the folks here can tell you that after the junk if out of your system, it gets easier. Don’t give up!!! Don’t forget I’m your sponsor tomorrow!

beatle, where the heck have you disappeared to?

Also among the not heard from in a while are; ruadh, Lissa, Auntie Pam, Beeruser, Chief Crunch & muffinman Wassup guys?

BratMan, you did awesome today, buddy. I’m VERY proud of you! It would seem as though you are being sponsored by Grace tomorrow, I’ll be your silent sponsor on Sunday and Monday (meaning, I know you can’t check in here, but you have to promise me you won’t smoke either of those days and if you think about doing it, think about me cracking an anvil on top of your head :D). Arnold is lined up for Tuesday, now you just have to assign the rest of the week. You’ve had several volunteers; evilbeth, Jeannie, purplebear, etc. You have to let people know, ok?

Hang tough - you can do this!

Spolvy, welcome aboard! I’m not sure what FNG means, but we don’t care about post counts in this thread.

And we’ll not only wish you luck, but we’ll offer you all the support you need. Would you like sponsors, too? Have you finished those 8 cigarettes yet? Download a meter to keep track of how well you’re doing. Come back as often as you need for encouragement, ok?!!

purplebear, I am on my way to the well-endowed thread right now. I’m ashamed to say since you started that thread, I’ve been living on The Edge. The Edge pizza from Pizza Hut, that is. LOL. I’m not much inspiration I’m afraid. But I’m on my way.

jazzmine, how did you and your hubby do today? Check in and let us know what’s up.

Wally, have you given up on us? :frowning: I miss you so much!

Jeannie, Cristi, ultress, dave, we need to hear from you guys, too?

I’m still smoke-free after 1 month, 2 days, 20 hours, 49 minutes and 31 seconds. 394 cigarettes not smoked, saving $61.13. Life saved: 1 day, 8 hours, 50 minutes.

Un-freaking-believeable!

23 hours, 43 minutes and 28 seconds. 29 cigarettes not smoked, saving $3.71. Life saved: 2 hours, 25 minutes.

It’s been kinda hard the last couple of hours…but so far, nothing that’s gonna make me die.

You guys are all wonderful for offering to sponser everyone.

trisha

So when do you want me to sponsor you? I’m up for the task. Stay strong! You’re doing great!

Hey, Shayna, I am so proud of you! You are doing so well! Keep up the good work and you can save enough money for a trip to FL. I hope it is getting easier for you as each day passes. As you know, I have never smoked but I do know how hard it is to quit and you are doing super! Just think, no more yukky tobacco smell, a bright and shiny smile, and all that extra money in your pocket. How much more can a girl ask for?

Whoa ho ho!! Will you lookie here. Her first post and she mastered the art of smilies. Hey Katzmeow. Glad to see you made it to the boards. It’s gonna be a little freaky for my to call you Kat though. I still think of Shayna as Cat.

Anyway, good to have you on the board. BTW, I’ll think about that game you mentioned.

Hang in there all of you! My timer at work says something like -2 weeks or something. I start Zyban on Friday! I’ll need you when I get there! Shayna, I just want to say thank you again for all your support to everyone. You are awesome! I don’t want to leave my love early someday because of this stupid habit that feels good now, but makes my lungs hurt in the mornings, makes me wheeze after bike rides, makes my teeth turn brown and makes my house and clothes stink. Thanks.

Shayna asks:

Ha! Fat cance. As if.

This is my mission in life. I’ve even convinced my neighbour Tony to quit. Okay, so he only went for a day, but it’s a beginning.

After you’ve stopped smoking for about a month or so, try this little experiment:

Closely observe someone in the act of smoking. (Don’t stare, for heaven’s sake! Do it surreptiously).

I guarantee that you will be amazed. You will think it’s the stupidest thing you’ve seen since The Three Stooges.

The explanation is simple: It * is * stupid.

Then ask yourself this:

If cigarettes were invented today, would anyone but a moron take up this habit, assuming that it would pass FDA regulations, which it would most assuradely not?

Harsh words? Perhaps. But being an ex 2 packs a day moron, I’ve earned the right to draw this conclusion.

You will too.

Shayna, will you marry me?

I couldn’t resist: Had to get beneath ya.
easy…

I like it when you get beneath me.

Oh, oh. Here comes the wife. Gotta close this thread.

I think I might have cheated last night. I think I also might have eaten two bags of chips, dropped a contact lens in the toilet and sent an embarrassing SMS to the guy I have a crush on. Quite frankly I was so drunk I could have swam naked in the Liffey and not remembered it today. But I do seem to remember cheating on the cigarettes :frowning:

It was only a drag of someone else’s smoke, not a whole one, so it’s not that bad but I am still very disappointed in myself.

almost smoke free for: 3 weeks, 1 day, 11 hours, 14 minutes, 17 seconds
cigs not smoked: 674 minus one puff
money saved: £128.06

Glad to see all the new quitters joining in. I can’t imagine anyone being sorry they quit.

Smoking does start looking pretty stupid, as Wally mentioned. I guess we all have a little stupid in us.

My daughter apparently has quit smoking now. That was a large part of my motivation to quit 17 months ago. Now I only have to deal with the fact that she’s living with her boyfriend. And that he smokes.

And so life goes on.

One year, five months, two days, 11 hours, 25 minutes and 50 seconds. 18181 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2,454.33. Life saved: 9 weeks, 3 hours, 5 minutes.

I wanted to chime in my continued support of the individuals on this thread.

Special welcome to Katzmeow! I take it you know Shayna and Grace, two of the finest people on this board. You certainly have good taste in friends!

Continued willpower and best of luck to you all!

It’s okay, ruadh. We’re not going to count that little slip up. Keep that counter going.

You’ll be okay. These little set backs are not fatal as long as you continue your program. You’ll get there. And you’ll see that I was right. Again. As usual. Naturally. Of course.

Don’t make a monkey out of me, okay? I can do that by myself.

Geez, Shayna, ever hear the phrase positive reinforcement? I treated my dog better when breaking her of the habit of taking dumps on the bedroom floor. But ok, I promise not to smoke those two days. Thank God for my Playstation though, playing baseball there has kept my hands moving and mind occupied enough that away from work I don’t crave a smoke too badly. Too bad I can’t play real baseball. I miss that. But I’m rambling now, I find myself doing that a lot lately. Did anyone else here have problems concentrating or focusing on things?

(BTW, in case you were wondering how I trained the dog – put newspaper down all over the place – puppies never go on the newspaper ;))

Arnold, purplebear, Grace, Shayna and everybody else…
Thanks for the encouragement.
I could have picked a better day to do this
My kids will be here in about an hour or so…No biggie there, they’ll be tickled that I’m quitting.
I just got a call from the delivery co. that was supposed to be here an hour ago…they won’t be here for another hour and a half…%#@!&*^%@'s I have to try to be Bob Villa today (or would it be better to be Norm) but I had a mechanical bypass when I was a kid and I'm afraid that I'll end up like a bad Home Improvement episode. It'll probably be funny if you could watch but my sense of humor is toast and it's not even 9 in the morning yet... Shayna--Finished the last one about the same time you were asking that question last night...FNG is a name that I picked up a while back when I went on a fishing trip. I went with my cousin and a bunch of his buddies who have been going on this trip for 20+ years. This was my first time on the island with them and I was drunkenly dubbed the F@#%&N New Guy. (it got shortened to FNG when the TV crew showed up, but that's another story) Anyway, after hearing that 4 million times a day for a week or so I kinda got used to it. I'm still the FNG to those guys. Beautiful Morning....Birds are singing...Sun's out...Sitting on the deck and GOD I really want a cig...AAAARRRGGGHHH! Is it cheating if I chew on a cigar? I won't light it, I swear. One good thing today...my ex won't hang out for very long when she finds out that I quit... Think I'll go finish ripping out my bathroom and tear down a wall or two...I might be done by the time the delivery guys get here....%#@!&*^%@'s
C Ya!
11 hours, 8 minutes and 43 seconds. 11 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2.17. Life saved: 55 minutes.
