Good advice; if I were in the edit window, I’d change it. But I ain’t.
Greatest Movie Entrances of All-Time Check this list.
Clint Eastwood’s ride into town in High Plains Drifter.
Does it have to be the characters first appearence in the film?
If not then Toth’s entrance into the tent to interrogate Marion and he pulls out his travel hanger in Raiders of the Lost Ark is really fantastic.
Maleficent has several great entrances in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Her first appearence with the green flames is really cool and of course her transformation into a dragon is unmatched.
Rhett Butler is a good call, particularly since he is standing at the bottom of the staircase, and the staircase itself is a motif for Rhett & Scarlett’s relationship: He proposes to her after her drunken walk down the staircase, he carries her up the staircase for a night of sex which gets her pregnant, he makes her fall down the same staircase causing her to miscarry, and she collapses on the staircase after he leaves her with “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
Hear hear. It’s a constant irritation to me, too.
I agree that Frankenfurter’s entrance - the huge platform heels tapping an insistent rhythm as he descends in the elevator - can’t be beaten.
But for a close second, I nominate Cameron Diaz’s entrance in The Mask. For all red-blooded straight men, who had never seen her before, that was a knockout moment.
The message board software should be rewritten so that people who post blind links are automatically suspended from the SDMB. Then it should generate a message to Homeland Security suggesting that the perpetrator is a foreign agent who should be investigated immediately.
Good call. She was a star within a second of that scene.
Just in case we forget that scene => http://youtube.com/watch?v=UoeEm-IDF-Y
That music also makes me think of a Woody Allen introducing his favourite character in all his movies. His city.
George Scott’s entrance at the beginning of Patton.
Yes, please. Can’t view videos at work.
Kinda harsh for a first offense (in this thread!), dontcha think?
I bet you voted for Pat Buchanan in '00.
There’s always good ol’ T-Rex from Jurassic Park.
RR
For an animated example… Beauty and the Beast, Belle’s entrance at the top of the stairs in the yellow ballgown. The first time I saw that movie, I was in a theater full of young and not-so-young people, and that moment inspired audible gasps.
The first full view of the shark in Jaws.
The spaceship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Perhaps someone else posted Ursula Adndress in some James Bond movie. Great entrance, but you have to admit they were trying too hard.
Our first view of Oz in The Wizard of Oz
It might be stretching the rules a little bit, but the first thing that came to my mind was the first public appearance of Superman.
It’s technically not the first time you see him, since, of course, you see Clark Kent a lot, and you even see Superman at the end of that goofy scene in the Fortress of Solitude, but it’s the first time anybody else sees Superman, and it really is a great scene. One of the few I like in the movie.
