The greatest skill I've ever acquired in my Life

Sam Harris’ “Waking Up” meditation app came out a few months ago. I’ve been using it since launch. It is hands down the most transformative anything I’ve ever done in my life. I am infinitely more confident, wise, compassionate, and loving than I ever have been. And it’s only been a few months at just 10-20 minutes per day.

The secret is that he is able to precipitate certain insights into the nature of the mind simply by talking at you. I say keep an open mind and open ear for a good 30 days and see what you think.

Have any of you Dopers been using it? Does anyone have anything bad to say about the app itself and NOT Sam Harris the person? Opinions on its efficacy? I’m going to sound crazy saying this, but I honestly think this app and the knowledge it contains can change the world. Everyone has a smartphone these days!

This is also perfect for any of you lazy Dopers still lookin for late New Years resolutions (is this a thing? ‘Late’ New years res?)! Sadhu!

Give it a rest, man.

Apologies, but my previous thread was locked because I posted it in the wrong board section. My Fault.
May I also interest y’all in my Great Debates thread: https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=869011

He would be quite welcome to start a thread about it in the pit…

What does it entail?

I haven’t used his app, but I enjoy his podcast.

Most of the content takes the form of guided meditations, and the later guided meditations will evetually teach “non-dual” meditation, with some “pointing out” instrution typically associated with Dzogchen Buddhist masters.
The meditations should ideally be done daily, and only take 10 minutes each.

There is also a lessons section, which gives super condesed and excellent talks mostly on Buddhist Wisdom and teachings, i.e. The Dharma. But this is all presented in a completely secular way and Sam Has removed all the parts of Buddhism that have not yet been proven empirically by science.

Just skimmed through that again and found this gem:

That is a one sentence summary of his app.

Just change your name and clean your brain. Then sign over all your assets to Malcolm, the King of Love. And feed him gravel.

Is there a code we should enter to get a discount? How do we make sure you get a credit for the sale?

Is there any way that I, too, could become a distributor of this very fine product? Hopefully in a friends helping friends type of arrangement?

A 30 day free trial of the app can be acquired here: [deleted]

If you read the description of the app in the play store, you will see that there is a 90 day money back guarantee if you finish the first 50 days within the 90 of the guarantee, and are still unhappy with the app for any reason. Just email them

Also the if you’d read the description, you’d know that if you email them and say you can’t afford it, they will set you up with a free account.

The app is also incredibly easy to pirate on Android.

Doesn’t Buddha frown on pirating stuff? I like my religions/spiritual teachings to be moral and shit.

The Buddha is a Hard determinist. He is a communist. He loves all UNCONDITIONALLY and will never judge or blame you no matter you what you do. No matter how “evil” the deed.
He would probably just be glad that he is reaching more students! Not as if anyone ever paid him for anything anyway!
