The European Central Bank is, I read in todays paper, considering introducing one and two euro bills additionally to the coins of those denominations; allegedley because Italians and Greeks are accustomed to low-value notes and tend to give coins as tip. And, of course, they’re trying to imitate the internationally popular US greenback.
Now certainly not the most important issue among the many Europe is facing, but given the efforts done in other parts of the world to replace low-value bills with coins, this is a step in the wrong direction.
