and i am not spoiled. but i don’t understand why the “confirmed” town aren’t just poking the ever living heck out of everyone else.
Ah, OK, I didn’t know about that game. And yeah, I can see how that would make a royal mess of a game (especially a gastard game, which may well have some quirk to it that isn’t in anyone’s PM).
EDIT: Oh, and I also agree that everyone alive (not just the confirmed folks) should be working harder than this. At the very least, pick an unconfirmed person at random and park a vote on them while you try to come up with something better. Even just random play would be squarely in Town’s favor.
it was a total mess. i was actually fourth party where i had to get the mod lynched to fulfill my wincon. there were a couple of other fourth parties as well but they had different wincons. and the mod went missing on Day 1 so that Day lasted like three weeks real time.
to this day i still can’t figure out whether that was the plan all along.
and i didn’t mean to come across horsey, by the way.
see you in evil dead 2.
Get the mod lynched? As in, a plurality of the votes being “lynch the moderator”? That’s hilarious.
Then again, I did try to vote for the ship’s computer in Pleonast’s “SS Insipid” game, and that wasn’t even gastard.
yes, i had to get the group to lynch the mod to win (which i didn’t). and it ended up going 12 Day and Night cycles as well as the inordinately long Day when the mod disappeared. it was a VERY LONG slog.
The current discussion over there ending a Day when a majority is reached has me pondering Mafia mechanics now.
If you had a game where the Day ends at the deadline as normal, OR as soon as a majority is reached, would that affect the game balance? My gut feeling is that it’s a slight help for the scum, since they could conceivably organize enough to put an unexpected hammer down. But is it a significant advantage? Is it even really that different from their ability to wait until the end of the Day and change votes at the last minute?
Games have proceeded without incident with a hammer mechanism in addition to deadline. While scum could take advantage of a lynching vote, they generally do not since that is a way to stick out and be noticed. Ending the day is not taken lightly. Scum should only do so if consensus has been reached anyway, or the lynch will immediately win the game for scum anyway.
I could imagine some cases where it could be, especially if the town is down to LyLo: at that point I assume Scum could simply wait and pounce on the first non-scum player who got close enough to the edge of the majority, mass-vote him, and revel as the game ended before anyone else could stop them.
There is also the risk of town inventing rules to prevent this and bandwagoning that would unnecessarily complicate the game, like intentionally keeping an informal vote tally that the GM didn’t count. (“He said votes will not be valid unless they are bold and in blue, so I’m going to italicize my vote until the chronological end of the Day”)
and i this is maha’s game so he can do what he will. but a unilateral mod decision to extend the Day just seems off, especially that late in the announced Day. a lot of strategy for scum, and for town, is based on when the Day ends. so extending it just really seems not cool.
and yes omi a lot of scum voting strategy is waiting until the last second to shift a vote. especially at this point in the game. crap i think i have won two with that mechanism. and if the mod had shifted Day end then we would have been totally tanked.
I think the decision to extend the day is coupled with the decision to shorten the day. Ending it on Monday evening makes for a very short day, so extending it looks more like a realization that having a crazy short day defeats the purpose of having the game.
Blah, blah, blah. Whine, whine, whine.
Honestly, it was really too short a Day and too much on weekends. I shouldn’t have made it so short in the first place.
hey, like i said it’s not my game and i understand why it was done. it’s just that if i were scum and the Day got extended less than an hour before Day end it would irk me to no end.
i mean a lot of the voting at this point in any game is time sensitive. or at least the way my whiney ass plays it.
and i’ll go ahead and put the over/under number of posts based on the extension at 14.
i mean if ed and i were still playing you’d probably get another three pages but with this crowd, not so much.
Everything irks you to no end.
if you want to see irking me to no end then come play on idle’s board.
i seriously dare you.
then we can figure out whether you really have a pair or not.
neta: the one’s without pairs seem to do pretty durn good, as well. matter of fact those are the folks that scare me the most.
Does Drain Bead count as having a pair? Because she played pretty darned well this game, and it was just rotten luck that she had the role that got killed by game mechanics.
I’m getting better at being Scum, seeing as I haven’t had a Town role that made it past Night One in god-knows-how-long.
Can I PUH-LEEZE be Town next time? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

definitely, drain has a pair. they just are physically located a little higher than mine.
Uh, what the hell just happened? I’m confused.
