The Guardian's Top 100 Works of Literature

Bumped for the comparison with the new list- their reader’s choice.
Guardian readers’ top 100 novels of all time

A fair degree of overlap and I suspect some were chosen more on the basis of seeing the previous list and thinking ‘That’s not even that author’s best novel!’.

I think I’ve read 22 of the original list and 29 of the readers’ choice list, and abandoned 2 others part way through (though Moby Dick was possibly a result of trying to read it as a young teen while sick at my grandpa’s house with a rotten headache, wrong book wrong time)…

I think there are more “delightful surprises” in this list compared to the other one. I was pleasantly surprised to see Germinal by Emile Zola, for instance.
