the happily married thread

I’ll post, disregarding that it may label me as an old fart…

Lora and I met while I was in the Navy, through a mutual friend. I had graduated at age 17 (yeah, one of those fast-track programs), and Dad signed for me to enlist. Lora, still in H.S., and I dated for a year and then married. She was 18 yrs and 5 months, and I was 19 yrs and 1 month. That was Feb. 17, 1972. Now approaching our 28th anniversary next month, we remain very much in love with each other. Through raising two girls, numerous pets, each other’s quirks and hobbies, we remain true to our vows. Lora doesn’t like it when I remind her that she promised to ‘obey’, but the ‘for better and worse’ seems to have been a faithful vow for both of us. Sure, there are difficult times and disagreements, but you work through them, you don’t quit! We are still quite opposite in that she would prefer to stay at home and read a book, and I would rather take a day-trip with our sidecar. But we complement each other’s life, rather than restrict it. I would have no other, and look forward to retirement with that beautiful young lady I met 29 years ago. Married at such a young age, and with longevity running in both families, we could see our 75th anniversary!! We’ve already made plans for our 30th, 40th, and 50th! (Cruises and specific spots we’ll visit).
Still in love after (because of) all the years,
Chuck L.

Nightingale, pass that trophy over here. My husband and I just celebrated our 3 month "anni"versary on the 16th! So far, so good! In the past year, we became engaged, married, bought a house, and adopted a dog from the pound! (in that order!)Now we’re just sitting around waiting for the dust to settle!

My wife and I have been married 10 wonderful years. Unfortunately we’ve been married 22 years (bada bing). No kids, I was 20, she was 19, 5 days away from 20. We were married barefoot.

We belonged to a cult at the time and wanted to be married by someone in the cult. It turned out there was a guy who had a mail-order “license” so we decided to have him marry us. When I pickup up the marriage license, (this was in Connecticut) I asked if it would be legal to have the guy marry us. The clerk said there was no need for anyone to marry us, as far as the state was concerned once we signed the license and had it witnessed we were legally married.

We got married in a neighbor’s back yard, typical “hippy” type wedding with acoustic guitars, wine, and flowers. I wore bell-bottoms.
