The Highest Paid Job in the World

Footballers (soccer players) in the UK are reported to receive huge salaries . But a lot of this comes from advertising and sponsorship (if they are paticularly high profile and famous like David Beckham).
And I’m not talking about business men like Richard Branson who are self employed and pay their own wages.
So what is the highest paid job in the world, where an employee is paid by his employer? Simple as that.

CEO of Microsoft, perhaps?

A baseball player a couple of years ago was given a quarter of a billion dollar contract over 10 years. That’s some serious coin… That’s strictly salary from the team…

Bart Becht, chief executive of Reckitt Benckiser (Reckitt & Colman) in the UK earns £750,000 plus bonuses of £2.3m. And his share options are worth £5.7m. Summed up, that’s over £8m.

I imagine he works longer than a 40 hour week.

Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates both pull salaries of around $750K a year, which is much less than some other heads of corporations – for example, Michael Eisner’s $6 million at Disney (which I’m assuming is just salary). The Microsofties’ personal wealth comes instead from their stock holdings in the company.

That said, I should add that the question of CEO (and other corporate officers) compensation is complicated by the existence of incentive pay such as stock optiions and bonuses, so standard pay isn’t the full story.

Michael Schumacher (Ferrari F1 driver) reportedly makes 25 million POUNDS a year, or 40 million dollars (although he’s been asked to take a 13.36 million dollar pay cut).

I should note that with endorsements Schumacher makes roughly $42 million total… Tiger Woods makes $43 million with endorsements, although he doesn’t draw a salary per se so he wouldn’t count according to the OP.

Actually, dutchboy, as I understand it, that’s just his compensation from Ferrari; last I heard, he was making another $40 million in endorsements, appearance fees, etc. for a total haul of $80 million.

No, I didn’t research at all (note ?), but what you’re paid and what your base salary is are often quite different. I think most people consider stock options and bonuses part of their pay.

As an aside, I heard on the radio yesterday that the average salary of an NBA player is $5 million.

Hmm.
After reading another set of articles it appears Schumacher’s salary is the subject of some dispute.

The lowest figure I saw was $25 million, but Forbes now estimates his base pay at $75 million… wtf? Either way, I think he’s gonna win…

True, insofar as it all ends up as money in the bank. Maybe I’m making things too complicated, but being that this total amount incorporates variable pay (bonus), perhaps we need clarification from the OP as to whether that’s part of his question or not.
