Yeah, from WOTJ:
Looks like JRRT did indeed place Sauron in Valinor in more than one draft, plus a letter. As noted in my previous post in this thread, I suspect Sauron probably even had a role in building Valinor.
That’s the headache of dealing with lack of a final Canon. Lots of loose ends were left out there. Early drafts have Sauron being Morgoth’s secret spy in Almaren ages before Valinor was built, later writings say he was suborned to Morgoth’s service in Valinor. :smack:
Here is the Hobbiton set before the renovations restored it to its Lord of the Rings quality again.
I’ll bet it took a bit of work to make the insides of those hobbit-holes habitable again after being a sheepfold for almost a decade.
They were never habitable to begin with - they were just very nice ‘insets’ into the hillside to make it look like there was a Hobbit Hole there. There wasn’t really anything behind them to speak of in most cases.

We visited there in about 2007. Most of them were doors that didn’t even open. Bag End, the door did open and there was a tiny room that it was possible to stand in, but it certainly didn’t look like anything – just a large crate, sort of.
Thanks for the link to the new production video. I haven’t seen it, but I bet they are bustling like crazy to get this movie finished for December.
Ha! Love the ending!
Vastly enjoying the over-cautious blurring of EVERYTHING in the backgrounds of the various production areas.
I like the big “no” symbol over anything for “Film 2”.
Goodness, they certainly have a lot of “ten sheeds” at that studio…
Also, I see that just like Lord of the Rings, Hobbit has caused Peter Jackson to gain weight. He looks about the same as he did while filming LOTR 11 years ago.
I hope he loses weight again after this gigantic project is finished.
He’s commented on this before - he gets stressed during projects and his personal health goes a little bit pearshaped. He actually ended up in the hospital at some point in the past due to ulcers.
While he’s nearly as HEAVY as he was during LoTR, I will say that he looks HEALTHIER this time around - he’s not nearly so pale and haggard looking, and he still has that spring in his step and his expressions are all sparkly still. I thought he looked like a zombie at the end of LoTR - I was really truly worried about him.
Does anyone know what happened to Jamie Selkirk? He was Peter Jackson’s editor on every movie he had made up to Lovely Bones, which he did not do.
Now, he edited only Return of the King because a different person was in charge of each of those films, but he was given Return of the King because of its importance.
Now, I see has is not editing either section of The Hobbit as well, nor is he a producer. Did the two have a falling out or did he just retire? He did win the Academy Award for editing Return of the King, so perhaps he just decided to go out after finishing that and King Kong.
Anyone know the story?

I see photos on the Facebook page, but no video.
Because there isn’t one, though the hope/expectation that there will be one. In his last video he did mention that there would be a video “when we wrap or shortly after we wrap”
