The Hobbit movie(s) anticipation thread

Dammit, I have to drive an hour and a half to see it in 48fps.

Awesome–my regular theater is on the list.

I’m not sure this matters to me right away. I’ll see it in my local theater, which will likely do 24/3D and 24-not-3D, and if I’m stunned by the movie and want it again even better, I’ll travel the 20+ miles to a more capable theater for 48/whatever or even IMAX and do it again.

I’m going to see it in 48 FPS. If the only 48 fps showing is in 3D, I’ll bring my eye patch and cover one eye. But I believe that River East 21 will show both 48/3D and 48/2D.

I suspect that any multiplex that has gone to the trouble of updating their equipment to show 48 FPS is likely to have applied the update to all their auditoriums. From what I know of digital projection, the update is either purely a matter of firmware, or of adding additional memory to cache the additional frames. Either way, the labor to apply the update/hardware is expensive enough that they should do all the work in one visit. I don’t know of a single multiplex that has digital projection in only some of their auditoriums.

Well, considering I saw all the LOTR movies more than once, I’m not all that worried about getting my Hobbit movie cherry popped perfectly. I’m told that in real life the second or subsequent times are better than the first.

Hell, as far as I can tell they don’t even make it out of the misty mountains on this movie! This is foreplay at best.

Where did you hear that? I was under the impression only 3D will have 48 FPS. I hope 2D has it, though, so fill me in.

I haven’t really been following this thread, nor the status of the new trilogy in general, but opening night is on my wife’s birthday, which is traditionally a dinner/movie affair, so we’ve purchased our tickets in advance. We’re doing IMAX 3D, but opted for 24fps; I will likely go see it again on a man-date with one of my movie buff friends at the 48fps.

Just in time (The premier is the 28th) the first film is done:

Good for them. I can’t wait to see it. Of course, they now have 1 year and 8 months to finish two movies.

Good luck, folks!

Is anyone else wondering if Gollum will continue to show up after his scene under the Misty Mountains is done? Given that there’s 3 movies to pad out, Gollum is popular with the fans, and we all know that the Ring is wildly important, I suspect Jackson will have him leave his lake immediately, and track Bilbo all the way to the Lonely Mountain.

Muldoonthief, I personally have a hunch that Gollum is headed off to find the Shire and the Baggins and gets snitched by the Necromancer, but that’s just me. I highly suspect that he’ll pop in regularly, but probably not with any other ensemble scenes, since Serkis was busy being second unit director the whole shoot long.

For a little more fun, you can head over TOR.n for some truly wild-assed trailer-Jackson-and-book-based movie plotline speculation.

WARNING OF MASSIVE (possible) SPOILERS IN THE ABOVE LINKS!

I also wanted to see the 150 behind the scenes photos, but the webpage is claiming that they’re gone now - any proxies or other single locations for these shots?

Also, Elrond kicks ass in style. I wish I were still in college, I totally would wear that to my junior-senior dance.

Yeah, I was assuming that would happen in the 3rd movie, since it’s described by Gandalf & Aragorn in FOTR. But I suspect PJ is going to add Gollum scenes that have no basis in the source material.

…I went down to the Red Carpet yesterday to grab a few shots: unfortunately we picked the wrong spot because the stars were given the hurry up and they raced past our spot! So I got a few really awesome photos of the back of Elijah Woods head!

Cool. I watched some of the red carpet events live on TORN. Most of the Neil Finn stuff with an actual anvil, unlike the soundtrack) and the next half hour or so. Then watched some of the repeat this morning (my time). All TORN has now is a one minute video.

Perhaps he’d like to imagine himself a member of the Fellowship: The Noble Collection developer of products in collectible categories, specializing in the particularly demanding area of weapon replicas and metallurgy, as well as porcelain, bronze, silver and fine jewelry.

OK, I didn’t read through all 10 pages of this thread so this may have already been discussed, but the thing I’m wondering is whether the films will adequately portray the transformation of Bilbo’s character as the adventure progresses. He should start out as, on the surface, the most unlikely person possible for an adventure – “the little fellow bobbing and puffing on the mat, more like a grocer than a burglar”… but with the Tookish side still peeking out occasionally, almost unbeknownst to him. Really, up until Gandalf leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood, he remains pretty unsuited to the demands of adventure; it’s only after Gandalf is gone that he truly begins to grow into his role. So we really shouldn’t see a lot of “heroic” Bilbo in the first film… he should be mostly a comic, albeit sympathetic, figure.

Also… as long as it’s going to be three films, I think it would be cool if it included a scene (presumably in the third film) in which Gandalf asked Bilbo how he got the Ring and Bilbo told him the story of the riddle game as originally presented in the first edition of The Hobbit.

Just heard about this & there’s no other place to post it right now.
