The Hobbit movie(s) anticipation thread

Is anyone else disappointed with the design of Smaug? He looks ridiculous. Or as a friend put it, ‘derpy’ :frowning:

No sign of the Necromancer - does that mean he is not shown at all, not in this film, or they are saving him for a big reveal? Sort like the way Fellowship showed nothing at all about the Watcher in the Water, and it ended up being much more effective for being a big surprise.

I see we get more Radagast. sigh He could have been such a cool character too.

She is pretty though. Poor Gimli, that’s a tough act to follow. He deserves more than being a piece of rebound tail.

That’s Lee Pace!

Elf girl still looks oversaturated to me.

I’m not being super-thrilled about this, sadly. Oh well.

No, not at all. We had about six ridiculously overdone chase scenes in the first movie. Sigh.

I’m hoping they’ll still have six months to fix up the CGI on the dragon. But I’m wondering if I’ll go to see this one, or just wait to get it on Netflix.

The biggest crime the first film committed was leaving me apathetic about seeing a Hobbit movie. :frowning:

I once would have thought that impossible.

Waitaminute . . . there was a movie in that three hour ridiculously overdone chase scene?

I know. It’s the first time I’ve seen him play anything outside Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies.

Well said.

But I do think Smaug looks cool.

You should see Soldier’s Girl. He plays a transwoman who falls in love with a soldier.

So the “Happy Hobbit”* lasses from TORN posted a trailer reaction video

But the cool thing is PJ saw this video, and posted a video of Orlando, Lee, and Evangeline reacting to the reaction video:

Brian
*video series on mostly rural life things like raising chickens and collecting berries

I showed my wife the new trailer, and she said it all looks like an animated feature. I think that was yet another problem with episode 1: too much reliance on CGI.

I still have not heard final word on an extended edition of the first movie. I am assuming that the DVD will come out in November and I’m hoping it includes a movie ticket to the next one like the Lord of the Rings ones did.

Do we have official confirmation and a release date?

Ok, THAT was awesome.

Elves laughing at humans. Totally see that.

I liked how Orlando noted that Bard is the new hottie on the scene.

Hey! We’re in the same boat!

I hope you brought the extra food and water …

Yeah, I’m extremely lukewarm (does that make sense?!) about the second one. Only my love for Tolkien sustains my interest at all. I think it was Skald who commented that he decided he just didn’t agree with PJ’s taste in movies. Exactly right: PS’s taste in movies is abominable, only just barely mitigated by his superb taste in fantasy literature.

Hilarious. It has to be a good feeling to see people get excited about something you probably filmed awhile ago.

TORN has a frame-by-frame analysis of the new trailer:

Brian

I assume you have all seen “They’re taking the Hobbits to Isengard!”.

Now, we can watch Orlando Bloom singing along. It’s his goodbye video.

Their feet are almost as disgusting as Neelix.
