Purposeful? Or best typo ever.
What does it add?
BTW I’m not buying any of the BDs until I can get the EE boxed set.
Best typo ever. Hilarious that I typed that and definitely not intentional. However, I will now think of them as “extended additions”.
Only 13 minutes of added footage, I think. Mostly to Rivendell, which actually makes that section of the movie flow better than it did in the theatrical cut.
Also, a new song from the Goblin King, which I think should have remained cut.
Here is a little guide with some screen shots and timestamps for you.
Hey, Jackson paid for Dame Edna and he’s gonna freakin’ get his money’s worth!
Evangeline Lilly is worried about fan reaction to Tauriel… and I think she should be: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/11/07/evangeline-lilly-tauriel-the-hobbit/?hpt=hp_t5
Why oh why a red headed Wood Elf? Seriously, Jackson stop pushing us die-hard fans so hard.
Handy (if US Centric) guide to the extended editions:
Brian
My nine-year-old daughter, who is deeply in love with Legolas (along with Harry Styles and Howard Stark), said she “Hopes Legolas’ girlfriend gets killed by the dragon” when she found out about the character.
She can seek solace in the certainty that the character exists to be killed. Elfy the Red certainly wasn’t around during LOTR, was she? She’s there as a way for Jackson to get Legolas, a hugely popular character in the LOTR movies, into the Hobbit movies’ main plot and provide some sort of character arc for him.* Of course she’ll die before the end, as tragically as possible. I’ll be on my feet, cheering.
*Also so that there’s a female character of some sort in this sausage-fest.
Your daughter has good taste. I’m more on the Aragorn end, but she could do a lot worse. Only one pop-prince is amazing restraint for that age-group.
Hey, as long as PJ’s asking us to swallow the camel of characters and plot lines pulled out of his ass, we may as well not choke on the gnat of the hair colour.
I know,I know, but this is just one ass pull too many for me. I understand the want for more female characters. But couldn’t he have left this pretty actress who actually looks fairly elven keep her natural hair color that matches what the overwhelming majority of wood elves had for hair. Not to mention that no elves had red hair. Silly thing to be bugged by but I do hope someday, someone makes a movie of the Hobbit. Just a simple 3-4 hour movie without additions from nowhere.
Tauriel may die, but the character’s absence from the (internally-chronologically) later movies doesn’t make it necessary. None of the LotR movies take place in her territory; Legolas is out of his when he appears. There is (as far as we can now see) no particular reason for her to be seen or mentioned in LotR, if she had been (or, uh, will be) still living then.
They did. It was a cartoon. Not bad in its way.
I liked it as a kid first run but I watched it a few years ago and it was very hard to take.
A pint of Barliman’s best says she dies.
ETA: by the end of this trilogy, not by the end of this coming movie 2.
You’re on! Meet ya in Bree!
(Well worth it, either way!)
Watch out for Dark Riders on your trip.
It’s okay: I have a pass signed by the Mouth of Sauron, and I speak fluent “Black Speech.”
It’s those pesky Rangers who are more likely to hassle me!
