I was just wondering about the weird horned “Q-shaman” – what religion does he belong to? You don’t usually associate the word “shaman” with Christianity. But most of the “Q-crowd” seem to be conservative Christians. So, what is up with that?
(If this is the wrong Q – er, uh, I mean “queue” – then please place it in the proper one. Thanks!)
Judging by the large tattoo of Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer), I’d been assuming he was Asatru (a follower of the Norse pantheon).
NOTE- Every Asatru group I know of has been quite vocal in saying “This man does not represent us. Neither do white supremacists.” Considering that one of my best friends for half my life is a follower of Odin, I believe them.
According to this article, the guy basically rolled his own religion, based on a solid foundation of mind-altering substances. This resulted in him developing a ‘hippy without the politics’ belief system, where he believed himself to be attuned to spirituality and basically very woo-infused. He’s the type who will see signs in things and find meaning in stuff most of us would roll our eyes at.
All of which primed him to find significance in the ‘breadcrumbs’ of the alternate reality game called Q.
You’ve probably seen parts of this video, taken by a reporter for New Yorker. It’s 12:33 of insurrectionists raiding the Senate chamber. But most news outlets didn’t show the whole thing
If you fast forward to the 8:00 mark, the insurrectionists all stop what they are doing to pray - it lasts a minute and twenty seconds, and the whole chamber joins in. Ram Horn sort of ends up leading the prayer, mostly because he was the loudest voice in the room. But the whole scene is reminiscent of this toxic masculine Christian prayer circle thing that’s all the rage among Republicans.
Wow. That was horrifying, then comical, then horrifying because it was so comical. Yeah, I have seen brief news-snippets of that footage, but seeing the whole sad farce play out, with some playing pseudo-spy paramilitary games (we just gotta find something incriminating in these here files), while Q-shaman dude bellowed some shit in the balcony, damn it was all very ridiculous and surreal.
My favorite part, other than the prayer thing, is when they raze Ted Cruz’s desk and in effect get confused by a double negative…
Someone finds the paper that says Cruz was going to object to Arizona, then they all start talking about how he was going to sell them out before they remember that objecting to accepting is the GOOD thing. And they wanted to be in charge of the executions. Morons.
Ya know, as despicable as the guy is, I cannot help being a bit fascinated by the visual provided by his costume choice. I have always been a big comic-book fan, and his garb just screams “comic-book character”! Ridiculous but true…
Again, OTTOMH cults are usually religious in nature. Though many multi level marketing groups meet most of the criteria for a cult. I would argue that Q Anon fits too.
As noted in your quote, shamanism is a religious practice. It is not a religion unto itself. Numerous religions have shamans. So the answer to ‘What religion?’ is not ‘Shamanism’. I remember a Mongolian shaman speaking about his faith and practices at last Phily Pagan Pride Day (it was virtual due to Covid). Odin had shamans among his followers. There are of course some similarities. But they are definitely not the same religion.
Riemann I’ll give it a read, thanks. I can’t at the moment cuz I’m about to play Dungeons & Dragons on Discord with my aforementioned Asatru friend.
I love how well-versed these idiots are in our government. They storm the Capitol and have to ask, “Is this the Senate?”. Good job, morons! Granted, there’s another chamber there, but they really should’ve known where they were planning on taking over, not just purportedly why.
