The human side of Jesus

Zev , I hate to burst your bubble, but that isnt entirely correct. I’m away from my library right now, but I do know for a fact that the root of the word “sin” actually means “to miss the mark”. I believe its Hebrew or Aramic, but like I said, I’m away from my library and can check on it later. The point is, a mistake and sin in God’s eyes are the exact same thing. Take James for example where it says “He who keeps the law yet stumbles in one point has become guilty of all” (paraphrased). IF Jesus did sin, then everybody is completely screwed. Hebrews talks about how animal sacrifices are no longer needed because Jesus was a human that died, completely faultless. It is the sole fact that Jesus was faultless that is what made the pact with humanity work. If Jesus had sinned, than that pact is declared null, and we are all doomed to our sins (“The wages of sin is death”)

So if I invest in a stock and the company tanks, that’s a sin on MY part??

Which is a statement that I strongly disagree with.

Even if I agreed with the theology and agreed that Jesus never sinned, that doesn’t mean that he never made a wrong turn in his life, or accidently hammered his finger while carpentering, does it?

But I bet it healed pretty quickly then…

Then do you disagree with Polycarp’s statement that Jesus “went through everything that we do”? Life would be vastly different if we never made any mistakes. That would seem to defeat the notion that Jesus was placed on earth to have a true human experience.

When I think about it, every difficulty I’ve faced in life was ultimately the result of a mistake or bad choice of some sort. People who don’t make mistakes aren’t human.

Well, it says that Jesus was tempted in all points the same as us, not that He has gone through every possible situation or happening that can happen to us. Jesus was not just human, He was also God in the flesh, and I can’t see Him making mistakes. I think He was here for a spiritual purpose (besides coming to die for our sins), to be tempted like we’re templed in our every day lives. I don’t think he was hear to experience phyisical things colds or whatever.

No, but He probably did experience colds and aches, whatevers.

Well, at the very least, we know he did get hungry.

and He cried.
