The Hunter Biden Investigation {thread started in 2019}, Hunter Pardoned on December 1, 2024

Oh, goody! A diversion from the GOP’s current disarray and inter-party chaos! Hey, look over there!!

If there is evidence, and he’s found guilty, and sentencing is within the norm, then I am not going to complain. You do the crime you pay.

Of course, if Hunter gets anything less than being drawn and quartered in a public broadcast then the Republicans will claim they were too soft on him.

The previous plea deal would be the norm.

Any sort of real jail time would be out of the norm.

It is interesting- when trump cheats on taxes and has an extravagant lifestyle, that’s a Good Thing.

Sorry for bumping this thread if it’s not the correct place to post this, but I heard on the radio today while out running errands over lunch that the House will be voting today on Contempt of Congress charges for Hunter Biden after he ignored a subpoena to appear before a closed door committee session. Biden said he would testify openly, but my understanding is that the GOP doesn’t want that since then they can’t twist his words to fit their agenda.

My two questions are, what’s he facing with a contempt of Congress charge, and is it something pardonable by the President?

Worth noting that Hunter crashed the House GOP party today:

Hunter Biden actually showed up today in the House Oversight Committee hearing room to demonstrate he is willing to testify publicly before the House. This is a gift link so no paywall.

Several Democrats called out the GOP members to let him testify at that time, something he seemed will to do. Comer and the others of course refused since it doesn’t play in their game.

Jared Moskowitz even offered to vote in favor of the contempt citation for Biden if the GOP members would hold Jordan, McCarthy, Biggs, etc in contempt for failing to respond to subpoenas to the J6 Committee. It was a thing of beauty.

Since I was double-ninjad posting a link, I’ll just leave my aside:

I sometimes take one for the team and read the FOX comments, and it seems this event pierced the bubble. I mean, about 3/4 of people were critical of Hunter, and Democrats, and going on about “corruption”.
But the other 1/4 were saying “He showed up, why not question him? Don’t we deserve to hear it”? Or words to that effect. Trust me, that’s a lot. This is exactly why public testimony is what Comer Simpson wants to avoid.

I don’t think that was settled here with all of the conflicting data and cites.

It is a Federal crime so I assume so. And honestly, if the contempt is because Biden wants the hearing to be public, not private (assuming no national security issues) then he should be pardoned. This country ain’t about no Star Chambers

I saw some of the video. He really put the clown show into a lather, completely destroyed the “Hunter Biden is afraid to show his face around here” narrative.

It was pretty amusing, especially when one of the Dems suggested they put it to a vote on just questioning him right then. What the hell, there he is! Lots of sputtering Pubbies.

You should also look for the clip of Swallwell calling out Gym Jordan to his face in a similar way in a Judiciary committee hearing that was happening at the same time. These MAGA guys are such buffoons.

Thanks for the tip. That was awesome.

Here’s a link to a video of Moskowitz - link

Still looking for Swallwell.

Is this a joke?

That…was…awesome!

Well, getting threatened by Roger Stone, the Ratfucker General, will piss people off.

Nancy Mace, being unable to deviate from her set speech, shows what an intellectually dumb crew the current GOP house is. Absolutely amazing to watch her accuse HB of not appearing before Congress while HB is sitting there, in Congress.

Yeah, his sitting in the front row really took the wind out of their sails. Brilliant.

The coup de grâce was Hunter and his crew getting up and leaving just as MTG was granted time to speak. It reminded me of the Black Knight scene in The Holy Grail.
“Oh running away, you coward!”

Given that the accusation is that he’s afraid to sit for questioning - not that he’s afraid of the physical building - I’m not really seeing it.

I’m afraid of someone pointing a gun at me. I’m not afraid of someone shooting a gun, down-range, at a target. Showing up at a gun range doesn’t say anything about my willingness to engage in a pistols-at-dawn style duel.

Hunter’s willingness to blow raspberries at Congress from behind a barrier doesn’t say anything positive about his willingness to simply answer questions from Congress - stupid as those questions might be - factually.

What on earth?

If you’re accused of being afraid of something then doing something tangentially related to that thing which has no actual risk that you’re going to need to do the thing that you’re afraid of, doesn’t push back on the accusation that you’re a fraidy-cat.
