The Hunter Biden Investigation {thread started in 2019}, Hunter Pardoned on December 1, 2024

A news organization should put together a list of politicians and corporations where the politician or a relative of the politician sits on the board and doesn’t have direct experience in the corporation’s field. I would guess that there are many more examples other than just Hunter. For instance:

I expect every Republican will be talking up how it’s an obvious sign of corruption simply because Hunter was on the board of an energy company without any energy company background. Having a list of the many other times people were on boards because of their familial political connections would be a way to refute that talking point.

Let’s be honest here. Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts, many of his advisors and other associates have been found guilty of serious crimes, often incarcerated, and others are in the process of being prosecuted. Trump himself faces many other charges in three other criminal cases currently in progress. His whole business organization has been put on hold for being engaged in criminal behavior. He owes half a billion dollars in lawsuits.

The best that the right can do in retaliation is to go after Biden’s troubled son, who not only admits to wrongdoing from his drug addiction but literally wrote a book about it. This is all they have. They are going to milk that as much as possible.

(emphasis added)

I’m not sure that word means what you think it means.

I’d try “demonstrate” or “deflect” as you feel is more appropriate, unless you want to make an argument that your original usage was more accurate.

They can start with the guy that was CEO of Halliburton for 5 years during the time between being Secretary of Defense for Bush Sr and VP for Bush Jr.

Let us be honest. Hunter did commit some crimes. He deserves to be penalized for that. he was willing to plead out, and get a reduced sentence, which is how our Justice system works.

The GOP forced a trial.

Not if the Biden camp says that they agree with the prosecution that the Biden’s income for those years was X, Y and Z from sources A, B and C. Then the prosecution won’t have any opportunity to bring up witnesses about it.

Although as was pointed above they are actually getting pretty conflicted about that since,

  1. His being prosecuted, is hard to reconcile with of the DOJ, (US and New York state) being under Joe’s personal control.
  2. it looks like pretty small potatoes compared to what they have been claiming about him.
  3. Tax laws and Gun laws are probably the top two types of laws that Republicans most want to eliminate the prosecution of. So its uncomfortable for them to recommend draconian penalties.

As others have said they were really counting on Hunter getting off at which point they could rant about the evils of a two-tiered system. As it is they are a bit confused messaging-wise.

It’s just saying Joe Biden is corrupt because look at what his son did!

That’s the best they can do. It’s pretty weak.

Everything that you said is 100% true.

A lot of them (according to the feed on my Xwitter account) are saying that the Bidens offered up Hunter as a sacrificial lamb so that they can distract the public away from Joe’s crimes. By having Hunter be found guilty, the Bidens can pretend that the DoJ isn’t weaponized.

Sadly, it doesn’t matter if it’s weak. Too many people are in information bubbles now.
If you only hear media that says “Biden crime family”, then nothing about this prosecution will challenge that view, nor will anything else on Earth 1.0

In the modern GOP, showing that a Bush did the same thing actually just builds their case.

If you’ve already wrapped yourself into the right wing bubble, you’re not someone that the Democrats are trying to sway, so none of that is relevant. There are plenty that haven’t. And when the POTUS refuses to pardon his own son, I think that’s going to only help him with the voters that do matter.

Hunter Biden had elite corporate governance experience. He had previously served on many boards and was the Vice Chairman of the Amtrak board.

Yes, I noticed you posted that immediately after I gave examples of Hunter’s board experience. But you went all out on the full right-wing narrative anyway.

Sure, but I was just responding to a couple of posts suggesting that Republicans were struggling with the messaging. They aren’t. Because being self-consistent or principled are in no way requirements for their audience.

Every time the more objective media points out obvious Republican lies or hypocrisy, I can just flip over to the conservative channels and they’ll be talking about how evil the Democrats are and how republicans just pwned them.

But yes, the majority of people, thankfully, aren’t their audience. Because even most people that lean right aren’t paying much attention to politics.

In that case I agree with you.

Ha! This is pretty great. I doubt it will work because the Cannon decision is a real travesty and wrong in so many ways but it shows what’s good for the goose is good for the gander:

The requests in federal court in Delaware and California underscore the potential ramifications of U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s dismissal Monday of the classified documents case against Trump and the possibility that it could unsettle the legal landscape surrounding Justice Department special counsels.

Both Hunter Biden and Trump were prosecuted by special counsels appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland. In dismissing the Trump case, Cannon ruled that the appointment of the special counsel who prosecuted Trump, Jack Smith, violated the Constitution because he was appointed directly to the position by Garland instead of being nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

It does give me a wry smile. But more than the amusement this tangent provided, it further demonstrates what a POS Cannon is, how disruptive and ignorant is her juvenile havoc. Now the courts have to deal with this, because she knows better than, well, everyone.

It looks like Hunter’s tax trial in L.A. is beginning today with their choosing of jurors. I hope they get some jurors with tax law experience on that jury.

It looks like it’s ending today as well. Biden has changed his plea.

Hunter is deserving of praise for doing what is in the national interest.
