Iran – They have an unusual hybrid regime. The president is an almost powerless reformer, but no one knows from day to day whether the men with real power will fall.
Some on this thread – in my interpretation – think that the U.S. is a hybrid (between democracy and autocracy) where a state court can hold some federal officers to account. I’m skeptical of that.
I suppose the Minneapolis shooter (and other ICE agents who have been shooting into moving vehicles against standard policing guidelines) might be indicted years in the future when the U.S. has another government. Plus the shooter cannot be absolutely certain the federal government will successfully protect him from the state authorities. That discomfort and worry is maybe a little bit of accountability.
She was backing up and turned the wheels away from Ross.
Oh yeah, this is the brain surgeon who tried to stop a car by reaching through the rear window and grabbing the drivers seat.
Then he is going to film murdering a citizen by holding a camera in his left hand with the weapon in his right. I suspect he had never fired his weapon, otherwise he would have known it was a dumb stunt.
After murdering the citizen Ross just tramped down the vehicle path to view the body. He turned and tramped back like he’s comatose. I suspect they don’t want this guy to get in front of a TV camera.
But unlikely does not mean definite. And I can see where there might have been training, or recent emails coming from the top, that ruled out wiser choices. That’s why I’m more comfortable criticizing the system that is causing a high rate of ICE firing into moving vehicles (nine since September, not counting the Border Patrol) than focusing on one officer at the bottom of a pyramid – where at the top of the pyramid you have a president who endorses police brutality.
Vance said, “Ross enjoys absolute immunity.” Is this still a hybrid system? With immunity there will be no prosecution at all.
By the way, a physician asked the officer to allow him to check Good’s pulse. The officer denied. Why? In her physical state she could by no means be a danger to him (she wasn’t before anyway).
I suppose if ICE officers are trained to see all protesters as a left-wing terrorists they are easily inclined to perceive any move by them as a threat and are ready to use their guns. This means terrorizing normal citizens.
Whoever does either of the following is guilty of murder in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 40 years:
(1) causes the death of a human being with intent to effect the death of that person or another, but without premeditation
Slam dunk second degree murder, committed on video in front of witnesses.
Personally I’d say it was premeditated (he walked in front of her car with the intention of shooting her if she moved) but unless some other evidence comes up to support that, it’s second degree murder.
Going back to this post from two days ago, the audience is now broader, with multiple posters who react badly to a rush to judgment against one officer at the bottom of a long chain of command making second-to-second difficult decisions.
My hypothesis is that training, and other guidance such as emails, on car stops, was insufficient, contradictory, and supplemented by broad endorsements of brutality coming from the highest level. You have to look at the training not just of one officer, but of the whole team that failed at working together properly to safely achieve a reasonable goal. While a Nuremberg defense shouldn’t protect someone at the level of Kristi Noem, at the bottom of the chain it deserves consideration. If we give it no consideration, and rush to judgement against the shooter, we’ll get a lot of sympathy for the officer, and even for the administration protecting him, from voters that normally have some openness to we never-Trumpers. That’s seen in this thread.
I was asking a specific poster a question and that poster answered it a couple of days ago. I also think that a lot of the type of people you mention are retroactively using a “rush to judgement” to side with the authorities. By picking apart the minutia of every outrageous incident, they support the authoritarian regime. They’re just asking questions is part of the process as are the people who “don’t talk politics” with their Trumpists friends; the fascists count on these people to do a lot of their work for the .
Yes, how does he know her intent and why are LEOs always allowed to assume it is malicious?
Trigger happy policing Panic is spreading God knows where we’re heading Oh, make me wanna holler And throw up both my hands Yeah, it make me wanna holler And throw up both my hands

And then, AIUI, got back in one of the ICE vehicles and fled the crime scene.
I’ve been pulled over a fair number of times in over 50+ years of driving. Some with an officer standing in front of my car. The first thing I did was put the car in park and turn the engine off. When asked to get out of the car I got out of the car. Sometimes I got a ticket.
Well, his own video seems to support the intention that he KNEW she bore him no ill intent. In fact, she essentially said as much to the thug while smiling pleasantly at him. Will be interesting to hear someone explain exactly what the hell he was doing, and how it reflected training and policy, making laps around the car with his phone out.
I’m really hoping that this turns into an absolute circus as the state sues the officer and admin in state court, it is removed to fed court, and this horrific event is not allowed to simply disappear as we progress into election season.
I said this earlier, but apparently it bears repeating:
Why do we expect untrained civilians to always act calmly and rationally, while also fully expecting trained and armed professionals to panic? Doesn’t that seem backwards to you?
Did you ever get dragged into an unmarked car and get taken to a detention center hundreds of miles away with the real risk that you’d end up on a plane bound for God knows where?
Maybe there’s a reason no one should cooperate with ICE?
