The ICE shootings in Minneapolis (1/7/2026)

This thread won’t stay on topic any more.

3rd time:

Warnings will have to be issued after this one.

FYI: @Aspenglow, @ParallelLines

You got it. I’ve been watching everyone ignore you.

Checked in on r/conservative, the threads on the shooting are a mess but the “sane” take is:

-This was a “bad shoot” but justice will ultimately prevail

-Trump, Noem, et al are guilty of “speaking too soon,” nothing more

-This is Walz’s and Frey’s fault for their “inflamed rhetoric”

The insane takes aren’t worth mentioning, they’re either bots or plants or too far gone. But as expected, this is not changing any minds. Just in case anyone thought this might be a turning point.

It feels like there is a lot more organic rage with this incident but I don’t think it will change anything.

A “bad shoot”?

Yeah that’s like, cop lingo or movie cop lingo or something. Every time there’s an officer involved shooting conservatives debate whether it was a “good shoot” or a “bad shoot.” So they can pretend like they’re just impartial judges in all of this.

Thanks for the links to the decent media responses all.

I don’t think this has been posted before, but here is Dana Bash at CNN grilling the ICE commander about the Saturday shooting of Alex Pretti. The deflection and evasion is incredible! What a lying slimeball!

Bovino was on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash this morning. He reiterated the regime’s standard line about “Pretti brandished a firearm and attacked officers.” Bash wasn’t buying it; she replayed the videos and asked how he could justify his story, given the video evidence. Bovino just reiterated his standard line. They got to the point where they were talking over each other, but the conversation stopped just short of a shouting match.

Then, Bash had some kind of Democrat congresscritter on to comment. Representative or Senator, I cannot remember. Anyway, it was obvious that it took all his effort to stop short of saying, “What Bovino is saying is complete and utter bullshit.”

ETA: Beaten to it by @wolfpup !

They’re already moving into Maine. People there are getting pissed. Will there be more Minneapolis-style murders there? Lots of legal gun owners in that state.

Was that Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton? Because he’s been on fire about the murdering ICE thugs. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvgcFnCL3g4

Not necessarily. The ones whose minds change aren’t necessarily going to post about it.

Anyone else see a huge similarity between Bovino and Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn’s character in One Battle After Another)?

Is this on-topic? No warning but awfully close.

Stay on topic!

Oops. Sorry!

Fox News actually has an article questioning the administration line that this was a domestic terrorist who was brandishing a weapon. I was also somewhat encouraged by the article’s comments— still a lot of comments along the line of “he got what he deserved” but a surprising number of dissenting comments, some even calling it out for what it was - flat-out murder.

“The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed,” they continued.

There’s a gofundme for Pretti. It’s raised $708,606 so far. The goal was $20,000. I’m not sure if it would be okay to actually supply a link to it, or if that would violate the rules of this thread.

It’s refreshing to see the outrage being channeled into something positive and productive.

I really respect the people of Minneapolis more than I would’ve guessed. They’re still out there basically daring the fascists to kill them and remind them what pieces of garbage they are despite the intimidation, the brutality, the freezing cold.

I consider Americans to be massive cowards on issues like this, who’d rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is normal, and I gotta say the people of Minneapolis are impressing me.

There’s already a link upthread.

I live in SE Michigan and temps were between -5 to +5 Degrees Fahrenheit. Windchill another -10 degrees additional.

I went out briefly and man, I can not imagine going to a protest or being out there for more than a few minutes.

If you have never experienced colder than 10 degrees F, there really is another level of cold below that. Painful cold, I’d call it. It hurts to be out there.
