In this thread, I would like to sidestep economics for a moment (should we be capitalist? socialist? communist?) and look only at the social aspects for a moment.
I would like to ask the right-wingers and left-wingers to craft their ideal America in terms of what it would look like, socially. To help steer the discussion, let’s frame it in terms of a few questions:
**
What’s the racial mix? ** For a leftist America, maybe 40% white, 60% non-white? For a rightist America, maybe 90% white and 10% non-white?
**What happens to people who promote unpopular opinions? ** In a leftist America, can a creationist be fired? In a rightist America, can a socialist or pro-choicer get fired? Will anyone go to prison for promoting unpopular views?
**
Marriage/sexuality: ** In a leftist America, SSM would be legal, of course, but what about polygamy? What’s the ideal percentage of gays and lesbians? Would you like the population to be 30% LGBT? 70% LGBT? 0% LGBT? What would be the legal marrying age?
**Religion: ** Should the ideal America be 0% Christian? 20% Christian? 95% Christian? Overwhelmingly atheist? Buddhist? Shinto? Muslim? How free would people be to express their religious views?
**
Gender breakdown: ** Should the ideal America be 45% male, 55% female? The other way around? Or maybe an exact 50-50% balance? (Bear in mind that oftentimes the gender in the minority is the gender with the societal advantage.)
**Crime and law enforcement: ** Should the ideal America have only rehabilitation centers and no prisons? No death penalty? Or maybe thousands of executions every year? Maybe allow double jeopardy? Maybe The Purge?
Population size: Would the ideal America have a population of 100 million? 320 million? (roughly today’s size) 500 million? Would there be a One-Child or Two-Child Policy akin to China’s?
**The opposition: ** How would liberals be treated in a right-wing utopia? How would conservatives be treated in a left-wing utopia?
