What I’m after is ethnic jokes, but of a specific variety. That is, a joke native to a people about the people “next door” to them, say a Finn joke about Russians, or a Polish joke about Germans. Especially as that joke centers around a characteristic of those people.
Just for instance, Swedes tell jokes about how Norwegians are boringly industrious, humorless, and stolid. Norwegians tell jokes about how Swedes are lazy and frivolous.
Plain old “stupid” jokes are too easy and too “universal”. And within counts too, jokes by southern Italians about northern Italians work as well. Authenticity is good too, a joke your Slobovian grandfather told you about the Elbonian farmer is primo stuff, especially if you didn’t quite get it.
I think a hefty sample of such jokes would provide some thought-provoking insight on how people view each other across borders. Depends on how many ethnic derivations are represented on the Boards and whether or not anybody else finds this as interesting as I do.
Takers?
