The Internet and the Comic Book Guy Mentality

Worst. Thread. Ever.
Awww, c’mon. Someone had to do it.

Besides that, what Little Nemo said. If fanatical Star Trek fandom is all you have going for you in life, then you’ll do absolutely anything to prove your are the best/most knowledgeable/most insightful/most everything fan there is. And if knocking all others down a peg or two is the only way you can see of doing it, then, damnit, bring it on!

I am a Voyager fan. I’m not proud of it…

Are you allowed to whooooosh Mods?

Sorry, my post was made entirely in jest. It was a play on the “Comic Book Guy” mentality that is often prevelant on message boards. It was not meant to be taken literally. My mistake for not adding a smiley face but I thought people who were following the thread would take it in good fun. My error.

Hey, *I * got it.

Knowed Out, that isn’t just a description of Congress. As I read it, I said to myself “This is a description of the French Revolution.”

Here’s the thing: Moderators do not have the time or the inclination to read every thread. Well, anyway, I don’t. If someone reports a post, I look at that post, possibly a few posts before it, but I ain’t gonna waste my time reading the whole thread to figure out if it’s satirical or not.

Easiest solution: don’t let your satire include insults of other posters. Then there’s never an issue, is there?

Seems pretty obvious that he was (as he said) a parody of the topic of the OP. Since no one mentioned Motley Cru to begin with, who would he be insulting? I second “whoosh”.

Ok, ok, so C K Dexter Haven versus an Imperial Star Destroyer; who wins?

I gotta go with da Bears.

[sub]it’s a joke! it’s made of peeeeeeeeeople![/sub]

Someone is a

Damn…

You don’t know rabid fan mentality until you’ve tried to join a Blake’s 7 discussion group. Scary people.

I had no idea there was a Blake’s Seven group. I loved that show. What, however, is there to fight about (clearly I didn’t love it enough)?

Besides, everyone knows that Iron Maiden rocks the hardest.

Lochdale got spanked by a mod? Good ol’ Lochdale? For parodying a Comic Book Guy in a thread about how geeky Comic Book Guys on the internet are? LOL.

How the hell did I get away with THIS without rebuke?

Nice work, Lochdale.

Also never an issue when a mod makes sure to understand the context before cracking the whip. If you don’t bother to read the entire thread, why are you a mod?

A funny little cartoon skewing the comic book guy mentatity:

Hey, Aes, have you seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back? You’d probably get a kick out of it.

Agreed. The post in question was #19, not #2348.

I have but my memory of it’s pretty vague. Would it be worth putting on my Netflix queue to rewatch?

If you’re not a Kevin Smith fan, then maybe not, but it pokes a lot of fun at the Comic Book Guy mentality.

I like *Clerks *and Chasing Amy but didn’t care for Mallrats. I’ll put it in my queue
