The internet loves XKCD musical!

Since I’m pretty sure the next edition of the dope board software will automatically add a post for “Obligatory XKCD link” to every thread, I thought ya’ll would appreciate this musical tribute to XKCD (and indirectly the Discovery Channel, too), with a truly stunning array of guest stars.

It started with a great commercial for the Discovery Channel.

Which inspired XKCD to “xkcd Loves the Discovery Channel.

After came the animated adaptation of that xkcd strip.

Finally this amazing video just came out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQAk_T9SBbw See how many of the people you can identify!

(full info here)

Since a Superbowl commercial used the word “awesome”, I’m going to have to find a new word, but two days ago, I would have said this is awesome with awesome sauce and a tasty awesome filling.

(Thanks to Making Light for guest starring and publicizing

Neil Gaiman!!

It kinda breaks my brain when people who’ve damn near risen to legendary status participate in goofy homemade stuff.

I mean, Neil Gaiman jumping on a trampoline. That’s just surreal.

If ANY major league celebrity would do it, Neil would, though.

Neil and Front…that is so awesome.

What a way to start the morning, thanks.

Any chance there’s an annotated list of participants? The “full info here” has a list, but the hyperlinks are to home pages and the like. Not everyone comes out on their home page and says what they’re famous/well known for.

I only recognized MC Frontalot (‘nerdcore’ rapper) - he does the Transistor line, and one a bit earlier - and Neil and Maddy Gaiman (he’s famous for being a writer, she’s famous mostly for being his daughter…and kind of awesome in her own right) - Maddy’s the one with him on the trampoline (so he’d better love her sister).

I was unable to find Wil Wheaton in there, although the credits say he is

He’s near the end, somewhat soft-spoken. See the OPs “full info here” link for
a line-by-line credit

That’s the Bad Astronomer at :23

There’s an ex-SDMB’er in there - Phil Plait, aka “The Bad Astronomer.” He posted here as Bad Astronomer for quite a while.

He does “the future’s pretty cool” line near the end

Wil Wheaton was the only one I recognized.

  1. Lame.
  2. I don’t recognize any of those folks.
3 I sure as hell hope that the next version of the SDMB doesn’t automatically include XKCD links.

Hank Green (who loves this bakery) is one of the vlogbrothers and the founder of ecogeek.com.

I didn’t recognize him by sight (though he looked familiar), but Bruce Schneier obviously loves cryptography.

I just noticed a full list here (scroll down). I also forgot to point out I did recognize Cory Doctorow (of the blogosphere).

Is he wearing a cape?

Thanks, you’ve made my day.

For some reason, in the XKCD-verse, Cory Doctorow wears a red cape and goggles. In this case “Obligatory XKCD links” might help a little.

Frontalot!

It made me wiggle in my seat. This, to me, is the mark of a fun video.
