"The Itch" Old Time Movie Word For????

I watch a lot of old movies and I have heard ladies say things like

“Oh dear, please, I’d rather have the itch.”

Is this supposed to be innuendo for something or are they actually referring to an itch.

The latest I heard this was in a 1939 movie called *the Women.

Seems kind of like a risque thing to be referring to if they mean a vaginal itch but I may be just reading things into something that isn’t there
