The Jay Leno Show

 I don’t see it as a dick move, when she was alive Kayne would mention her constantly and how much she influenced him and how her approval mattered. Maybe I am just bitter towards Kayne for milking sympathy from everyone for a long time when his mother died from ELECTIVE SURGERY that she was instructed by doctors to NOT have. It didn’t humble him, it didn’t make him stop being a self-centered, ego-inflated douche.

I like his music by the way (except his last auto-tune stuffed album was atrocious,) it has nothing to do with that or jealousy.

So not to be accused of entirely threadshitting…

I find nothing new or exciting about this show, which is a shame given the free range NBC probably gave Leno. I might just DVR it to watch Headlines and maybe a performance or two until I get my home computer working again and can watch Youtube.

Agreed, from someone who also likes Jay Leno. (at least as a person, even if not so much as an entertainer). I dont think this new gig is going to turn out well for NBC or Jay Leno; though I would like to see him make a go of this new show, it certainly does not look promising after the first couple of shows…

As an aside, I have always enjoyed Michael Moores movies, and have usually agreed with his political point of view----That said, I think I have read (here on SDMB) that in person, Moore is nothing like the folksy “aw shucks” everyman persona that he offers up to the general public, but instead is a rude and arrogant jackass who often treats others like crap.

Is that something anyone can confirm?

Oh wow, well that changes everything. I thought he was just TRYING to make Kayne look upset, to even further the stunt publicity (and not to get too far off topic, but Taylor should be happy too, cuz she’s getting more attention than an MTV award would ever give her!). Jay really is one of the good guys in the industry. I hear he does an AMAZING stand-up show in clubs, I’m just sick of all the damn OJ and Clinton jokes he did on(cmon, the 90s were almost a decade ago!)…maybe he’s FINALLY leaving that behind? And what everyone seems to be forgetting here is that his previous show got great ratings. Having his show on even earlier is not going to make his fans start watching Conan instead, especially when there really isn’t that much for competition in the 10pm timeslot anyway…unless there’s a big crossover audience with Private Practice or CSI.

To quote Krusty the Klown: look at the level that TV comedy has fallen. We’re laughing at some schmuck reading typos from the daily newspaper!

Not sure what this has to do with Jay Leno, but have you ever actually SEEN any of his documentaries? The main reason I won’t watch his movies is because of what a consistant ass he is in them to everyone. I imagine he’s at least 10x worse in real life when he can’t edit out the embarassing stuff.

Interviews are not cold. A producer talks with the guest to get some questions for which the interviewee has good answers/stories. I guess that the “at what monment did you realize” and the question about his mother were planned in advance. Kayne probably said something like “my mom would be unhappy with me” or some such in the pre-interview.

Man, that Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz bit was awkward.

Tom: “I feel the need… the need… you’re supposed to finish it…”
Audiance, half-heartedly: “for speed”
Tom: “for speed. Hahahaha…”

Cameron: No, you laugh too much.
Tom: No, you laugh too much.
Cameron: No, you laugh too much.
Tom: No, you laugh too much.

There aren’t enough eyerolls.

I am in a hotel and bored so I watched Episode Two. It sucked as badly as the premiere.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Jay Leno or his new show. If you want to talk about Michael Moore, pls. start a new thread.

Michael Moore was a guest on Jay Leno’s show last night.

Okay, “absolutely nothing” wasn’t technically correct – but the fact is that asking whether or not Moore is an asshole is a separate discussion that should get its own thread.

So what “awkward” question did Jay ask Tom Cruise? It’s on Yahoo’s front page, but it’s a typical video with no text story, so I’m at work and can’t view it.

He asked Cruise if he visited strip clubs. I don’t know what his answer was.

Never.

Why on earth would he ask a question like that? What was the lead-up?

No lead up, just Tom and Cameron sitting at a remote location and Jay saying he was going to ask them some questions. Like “Who wears more makeup, you or Cameron?”

Maybe the strip club question is related to all the rumors that Cruise is gay?

Oh, I had forgotten about the Cruise/Diaz interview. Oy, that was painful.

My parents, who are both 70ish, loved Leno on the Tonight Show. They don’t think Conan is particularly funny and won’t watch him. They accidentally missed Leno’s first night (It’s on at 9:00 here!) but laughed pretty often last night.

I saw Leno live once back in college (this was around 1990) and he killed. I like Headlines as much as the next guy but I find his current comedy pretty lame.

Anyone know if Jay’s comedy routine now(the one he does in clubs) is anything like what he used to do? I hope it isn’t lame jokes like his monologue.

That guy used to be able to tell the funniest stories and he was an amazing comedian.

I’ll never forget his story about when he bought his parents a VCR in the early 1980’s so they could tape his appearances. He’d wake up every night and find that his dad unplugged it to save power on the digital clock part of it.

I remembered Jay’s joke/story as saying they unplugged it because they were afraid it would start a fire.

I also saw Leno live around 1990 and he was excellent. He was very good at interacting with the crowd and making up jokes on the spot about stuff they told him.
