The Jeopardy thread [was James Holzhauer][contains spoilers]

Yeah but it might make the contestants feel better, like they were at least somewhat competitive.

But you guys may be right, he’s probably doing all he can to get everything right. But there’s times when he goes silent for a few answers, when the answers aren’t that particularly hard, and that’s when the competitors win a little money. Maybe he’s resting.

But yeah, I hope he continues to stomp the competition and win overly large daily takings.

It’s entirely possible that they just buzzed in before him. He doesn’t seem to be an “active” buzzer, like the people you see clicking it 5 times.

if he really wants to take pity on his opponents, he can write them each a check for a few thousand dollars. While still crushing them in the game, to enable him to afford it.

Man. James is Shiva, the god of trivia death.

These are the kind of records I’m known for. :smack:

Jeopardy is syndicated, so it’s not owned by a network. I watch it on the local NBC affiliate. My daughter watches it on her local ABC affiliate; my son on his local CBS affiliate.

There are some episodes on NetFlix, but nothing very recent. It’s supposedly streaming on Hulu, but I don’t have a subscription.

Jeopardy has a YouTube Channel. You might be able to find them there

Anyone remember his first game at all? Was there any sense of something special brewing at that early stage?
mmm

The finest non-lethal military vehicle ever made.

According to one thing I read, if you buzz in too early you are locked out for a few milliseconds, so that active clicking may not be the best play.

I watch most days, but I think I missed his first game and then saw starting with his second. He already seemed quite dominant.

I haven’t watched any of this, but here’s the stats and story from the first game.

I wasn’t aware of this site. Thanks for posting.

A couple of stats through today for the cyborg:

He has 680 correct answers, and 23 incorrect.

He is 41 for 45 in Daily Doubles, winning a total of $400,325 for those questions.

And he’s 18 for 19 in Final Jeopardy. The only one he missed was on April 11, where the clue was ‘This inductee into the Video Hall of Fame sold 17 million copies of a videocassette she released in 1982.’ His answer was ‘Who is Madonna?’ The correct
answer was ‘Who is Jane Fonda?’

I was just reading some stuff on 538, which linked to a Jeopardy recap site. I was shocked by the FJ question Jennings messed up on to break his 74-game streak. Federal Express, Ken, really? (It’s also interesting to click the “bet suggestions” link and see that the woman who beat him actually should have bet the way they suggest, as it would have ensured she did not actually need to answer correctly to win.)

It’s a morbid thought but has anyone considered that James could still be on his winning streak when Alex is no longer hosting the show?

You’re right. It’s a morbid thought.

Oddly enough, I answered the same thing as Ken, only to realize after-the-fact what a dumb answer it was.

Huh. That seemed like a pretty easy one to me. And I am in no way saying I could go win on Jeopardy. In particular, when I’m watching it drives me nuts how often they reference an actor playing a certain movie role, and I can picture that actor’s face, could tell you about that movie, the role, other movies the actor has been in, etc…but cannot get the actual name off the tip of my tongue until it is stated out loud.

I said … junk it!

Hell, he could still be on his winning streak when he himself dies of old age.

Right. It’s easy to say “I’d clean up that category” when you’re in the comfort of your own home…but how easy is it when you’re under hot studio lights knowing that everyone you know, including millions of others, is going to be watching you? That even makes me a little more tolerant of some of the ridiculous answers we get on Family Feud.

(FWIW, I have had one Jeopardy audition, but no dice. I think I did pretty well on this year’s test…we’ll see.)
