The Jeopardy thread [was James Holzhauer][contains spoilers]

My wife and I think he sounds exactly like he’s doing a football game. He needs to turn it down a notch.

(Joe is not the best football announcer, but Troy makes it worse. If they paired Buck with Romo instead, that might be something.)

official now : Richards main host Mayim to host specials

What’s this about spin-offs?

I suspect that this may be regarding Celebrity Jeopardy. ABC may be planning to do these primetime specials. They aired the GOAT tournament in early 2020; they’ve also aired some Celebrity Wheel of Fortune episodes recently.

the link explains the spinoffs

Kinda makes you wonder why they bothered, eh, Fawlty?

She was probably picked as the best woman who tried out. And she’s very cute which helps and she has a science and acting background and she’s well known.

Current guy? It feels like he’s SHOUTING ALL THE TIME.

Well, I liked Richards fine (more before all this controversy). I’d rather have had Buzzy or Ken, but he’s bearable.

“Mike Richards.” Has a nice ring to it. Sounds American. Can’t afford to offend the American Legion!

“Honey-Nut Jeopardy!” “Pumpkin Spice Jeopardy!” in the fall…

Don’t forget Fox’s XTREME! Jeopardy! (so extreme it has TWO exclaimation points!!)

In single jeopardy, they have you stand on a ledge that gets smaller with every wrong answer. Too many wrong ansers and you fall 20 feet into a giant cushion,

For DJ, they take the cushion away.

In FJ, you bet your own money. They have mortgage lenders there on site.

So…when do the new season’s episodes start to air? I imagine they haven’t been filmed yet, so it may take awhile. If the current champion wins three more games, he would then carry over the lay off and continue.

What happens starting next week? Do they show reruns? Would they be reruns of the guest hosts from earlier in 2021, or older shows with Alex Trebek?

I believe the new season starts on 13 September. I would hope the filler episodes are from past tournaments, or at least games where the contestants were sharper than they are now.

My on-screen guide from Cox Cable tells me that next Monday’s show is a repeat of the show from 12/21/2020. The Jeopardy archive tells me that the show that was supposed to air on that date (#8306) was instead aired on 1/4/2021.

The show that was instead shown on 12/21/2020 was part of the two weeks of reruns they showed as a tribute to Alex. That show was #4624, show #57 for Ken Jennings.

No idea if either of the above two shows will actually be shown next Monday.

When Joe Buck was listing the unique accomplishments of Matt, he added “and one that may never be repeated”, and we really thought he was going to say that Matt “lost over 70K total in final jeopardy and still won.” That’s pretty unique I bet. Instead it was the boring one that he won under three hosts or whatever the total is.

Matt Amodio seems to struggle with FJ. Lost a lot of $. He’s gotten more conservative wagering on FJ.

It’ll be interesting to watch his strategy next season

I was very impressed with Brianna Weck today. She was quite intelligent, attractive, charismatic and sharp. She played really well. Very unfortunate that she was stuck playing against Matt. Brianna would have gone on a run if she would have played against the stiffs who were playing 1-2 months ago.

Yes, I for one would like to, um, see a lot more of Brianna Weck. But again, I knew FJ when everyone missed it. And this makes twice that Amodio crossed out the wrong answer.

I’m surprised nobody knew about “Sue the T-Rex”.
