Rebecca buzzes in.
Host: “Rebecca?”
Rebecca: “What is ‘Rebecca?’”
Host: “Right.”
How often does Jeopardy reuse questions? I haven’t noticed any repeats. It’s been 40 years and they’d have to recycle their questions occasionally.
Yes, this happens occasionally.
I’ve noticed repeats, but reworded and in a different category. Like you might have a clue in famous American women, and later reused under 20th Century sports legends.
Yes, this does happen occasionally. I noticed one on last weekend’s repeat (don’t remember what it was) that was almost identical to another a few days before.
I had an incredible feeling of deja vu!
Worded exactly? I would say never. But they repeat the basic question a lot. “It’s time for Charlotte’s Web to come up again.”
Right. The clue is never exactly the same, but there are certain people/places/things that are kind of pet topics for the writers. Charlotte’s Web is one. Langston Hughes and the Adriatic Sea are two other ones I’ve picked up on.
I wonder if Rebecca (that was her name?) has ever actually read Slaughterhouse Five. The only line I remember (admittedly from the movie) is “Hey! Was haben Sie da?”
That and “The Universe is made up of random moments strung together.”
Well, hell. Our cable went down for a couple hours yesterday a half-hour before the show, so I missed it. But I saw online that Matt Amodio won again and reached $1 million.
Matt was again off his game last night. He wasn’t even in the lead as of the first commercial break, and was only $1000 in front at the end of the Jeopardy round. He got the Daily Double in the Jeopardy round wrong. He did manage to turn the game into a runaway by the end, but still, you can see that all it’s going to take is for him to have a night like that while one of the other contestants 1) is actually decent and 2) can keep him away from the Daily Doubles.
I wonder what’s become of the odious Clue Crew.
Matt had to play two quality opponents for the first time on the Thursday show, in addition to another good player on Friday. It’s a better show when he has good competition. I think about 98% of his opponents have been stiffs.
On Friday’s show, he would have lost if he had missed the Final Jeopardy question. I think he even crossed out the wrong answer and wrote the right one. Matt bet around $17,000 in an effort to pass $1 million and got the question right, but the other guy would have won if Matt would have missed it. I kind of thought that Matt would bet a small amount to guarantee his win, but he showed guts to go for it to get over the million mark.
It would be really interesting to see Matt play James Holzhauer, maybe in a special matchup. Ken Jennings couldn’t play since he is now a host, so I don’t know who the third player would be. I just think it would be intriguing to see Matt and James play each other.
For a game that special, it may make sense to have only two players.
I believe they accepted a spelling mistake in FJ the other night - someone spelt “Lusitania” wrong.
Yes, and it was explained (paraphrase) “We are going to accept that spelling – ‘UI’ can be have the ‘oo’ sound”
They might have accepted “Looseataynia”
Brian
You misremembered. Troy had $7,200 going into FJ, so his max win was $14,400. Matt had $31,800, so if he had been wrong he would still have won with $14,800. I’m pretty sure Matt is smart enough not to give away a certain win.
Yes, they regularly accept spelling mistakes, so long as it doesn’t change the pronunciation.
And I think Matt was having a bit of fun with us. He wrote out the correct question on one line (“What is Lusitania”, in his charming fashion) and underneath he added Titanic and crossed it out. Maybe he second guessed himself, maybe not. It did add a talking point to the end of the show, though.
You are exactly right. I misremembered. Thanks for setting it straight.
Hmm, weird coincidence on the show tonight. There was a category about ships, and of the four ships mentioned I’ve been on three of them (one was a reproduction).
They kept two DDs out of Matt’s hands and it was still a runaway.
I guessed McCartney for FJ.
