Looks like I’m about to win a new computer! There’s 7 in a dutch auction that closes within the hour and I have only one other competitor. Here’s what I’ve bid on:
[ul][li]AMD ATHLON XP 1800 CPU & SUPER COOLING BALL BEARING FAN [/li][li]256MB RAM, PREMIUM GRADE GOLD LEADS [/li][li]SOCKET A XP / ATHLON MOTHERBOARD ON AMD’S SUPPORT LIST, ATX FORM FACTOR [/li][li]4 USB PORTS (2 FRONT) / 1 PS/2 MOUSE PORT / 1 PS/2 KEYBOARD CONNECTOR [/li][li]64MB AGP VIDEO 128-BIT 2D/3D CHIPSET AGP GRAPHICS ACCELERATOR [/li][li]VIDEO CAN UTILIZE ALL OPEN GL & DIRECT 3D (3D GAMING), & FULL DVD PLAYBACK SUPPORTED [/li][li]AC’97 FULL DUPLEX 3D SOUND SYSTEM [/li][li]56K V.90 MODEM DATA / FAX / VOICE [/li][li]10/100 NETWORK FOR ALL YOUR LAN AND INTERNET (DSL/CABLE READY) [/li][li]40GIG 7200 HARD DRIVE, ULTRA DMA 100 [/li][li]52X CDROM, RELIABLE DRIVE [/li][li]1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE [/li][li]STYLISH ATX MID TOWER DELUXE CASE AND 300 WATT POWER SUPPLY [/li][li]WINDOWS PS/2 ENHANCED KEYBOARD & MOUSE [/ul][/li]
Not sure if there’s an OS installed or not. Not a problem for me if there isn’t one.
Auction closed with just the three of us bidding. I’ll have a third PC by the end of the month! Cost $400 including shipping, even with the high shipping charge it’s still a better deal than can be found in stores.
Thanks! I could go either way with the color. I already have two PCs which are both beige, but my IBM keyboard is black. Yeah, I have it set up so both operate off one keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Adding the third one would be no problem, I could even add a fourth if I had the space (and money) for one.
Well, it’s been a week and I haven’t heard anything from the seller. I did manage to find a mailing addres via their company’s home page and just got back from mailing a check. Their feedback is mainly positive and does mention the lack of email communication so I’m hopeful I’ll have my computer by the end of the month.
Good luck on this. Don’t forget to leave a neutral feedback even if you do get the computer. Can’t go around letting companies think that mediocre customer support is okay.
Arrived at work yesterday; went out to Micro Center for some extra cables to add to my KVM switch and got it all set up. Had to install the OS (Win98SE) and all the drivers. I also transferred my AOL account over there but I plan to go cable modem later on. I’ve also installed Totally Mad and the MAD desktop theme, Civ3 and Neverwinter Nights in that order. Yeah, I had Civ3 on my old computer but I wanted to take advantage of the higher speed of my new system (1.43gHz vs. 450mHz).
Yeah, I left positive after making sure everything works.
I left positive feedback because of some extenuating circumstances. It’s possible that they tried to contact me when the auction closed but I didn’t receive the email, or it was received and deleted by accident. Their customer service was great except for that original missing message and quickly resolved a problem that I had cause; should have waited for them to contact me with payment instructions instead of sending that check.
Oh, and I hope to have the cash to put in a video card come by Christmas. I’m using the on-board video right now and Neverwinter runs a bit slow even in 800×600.
