The judge is a jerk, with no room to talk

Well, that pain is why one would take the pills, and get enough relief (or to much) to go to work.

Whether sincere or motivated by self-interest, that was a pretty good apology. Look at the guy’s history and record before crucifying him. Not defending the action but simply saying consider mitigating the penalty.

This goes into something I’ve had trouble understanding for awhile. How do you get to a certain high ranking position like General or Judge and not learn to keep your mouth shut instead of saying something stupid? Reminds me of the General in Okinawa who said the Marines who raped a school girl had spent so much money on carrying out the rape that it would have been cheaper to get a hooker. He lost his job after spending a lifetime working up to that rank. Perhaps it’s that when you get to that type of position where you can tell underlings anything you want, you forget to actively censor yourself. I don’t know but it really amazes me that people in those positions can be that stupid.

I dunno, it looks like Elmore Leonard might have beaten him to it.

I’m shocked. I can’t believe anyone could be such an ass! What a horrible man!

The assailant probably had the same attitude towards the victim that the judge did. To some men, women who don’t fit the traditional standards of beauty and glamour are devalued, and therefore not worthy of humane treatment.

If she really was unfortunate in that department (although it should be noted that the kind of people who make insensitive remarks also tend to have ridiculously high standards to begin with) that may, in fact, have “justified” the attack. To the assailant, she looked like trash, and therefore easy to bring down. She was not likely to have a man in her life who would seek revenge, so he could do what he liked to her.

Furthermore, attractiveness depends quite a lot on one’s own confidence and sense of self-worth. Being raped can deal a fatal blow to those attributes, so it’s hardly surprising that a rape victim would, after the fact, no longer look like “a day at the beach”.

Rilchiam
I was merely repeating the judge’s statements which in no way reflect my feelings or knowledge of the subject.

I’ve known quite a few rape survivors in my many years receiving psychiatric treatment. I’m not a guru or expert, but I’ve learned more than I’d like to know.

For heaven’s sake, Doc, I wasn’t pitting you! You provided another example of this piggish mindset, and I was tying it in with the OP. I never thought it was your mindset.

But since you are knowledgeable about this subject, tell me: am I right or am I wrong? In my previous post, that is.

Rilchiam Sorry I misunderstood you.

Again, I’m no expert.

While some things in psychology are counterintuitive, this isn’t one of them.

You’re post was quite correct.

There’s a reason Fark.com has a special topic heading dedicated to Florida, and it sure ain’t the oranges.

Morons.org doesn’t do topics like that, but out of the mouths of editors come phrases like "And another story of immense stupidity from Florida… "

I wonder if spraying for all those bugs has influenced the drinking water, but some people have a natural immunity. Or is it all a matter of time… ?

Okay; cool!

??? I know what “counterintuitive” means, but I’m not sure what it is that you’re saying isn’t counterintuitive.

Okay then.

Also, I should have added: I could have told the judge in your example that being raped is not “having sex”. Shit, we had a thread about that just a few weeks ago!
